Answer: Gustav Holst

Each selection of this suite represents British born Holst's impressions of a different planet in our solar system. Despite this quite successful effort he was primarily a music teacher living from 1874-1934.
2. Who was responsible for "The Damnation Of Faust"?

Answer: Hector Berlioz

Best known for "Symphonie Fantastique" as well as "Faust", this gifted Frenchman lived from 1803-69.
3. Who Wrote "Fur Elise"?

Answer: Ludwig Van Beethoven

Not much more to be said about this amazing man who produced many of his most famous works while deaf.
4. Who created "The Hebrides"?

Answer: Felix Mendelssohn

Despite living only 38 years, this German composer produced five symphonies, two oratorios and many other musical gems.
5. Who wrote "Appalachian Spring"?

Answer: Aaron Copland

Copland wrote several other ballets including "Rodeo" and "Billy The Kid". His music was influenced in large part to Jazz and other American music.
6. Who is responsible for "The Rite Of Spring?"

Answer: Igor Stravinsky

Born in Russia in 1882, Stravinsky became a U.S. citizen in 1945. His most popular works are ballets such as "The Firebird".
7. Who wrote "The Moldau"?

Answer: Bedrich Smetana

Czech by birth, Smetana composed eight operas, drawing on local folklore for his subject matter. Unfortunately, he died both deaf and insane in 1884, at the age of 60.
8. Who wrote "Les Preludes"?

Answer: Franz Liszt

Franz Liszt was a musical genius. He was a piano virtuoso and never failed to demonstrate his virtuosity to all. Interestingly, his daughter was once married to Richard Wagner. My introduction to "Les Preludes" came from the title music of the Buster Crabbe serial "Flash Gordon".
9. Who gave us "In The Hall Of The Mountain King"?

Answer: Edvard Grieg

Edvard Grieg (1843-1907) based most of his music on Norwegian folk tales.
10. Who wrote "Das Rheingold"?

Answer: Richard Wagner

Among his more famous operas are "Tannhauser", "The Flying Dutchman" and "Parsifal".
