Joe Stampley's "Soul Song" was released in October of 1972 eventually taking the number one spot on U.S. Billboard Hot Country Singles chart. Born in Springhill, Louisiana in 1943, at age seven he met and chatted with Hank Williams, Sr. Joe's son Tony is an accomplished guitarist and songwriter.

A few of Johnny's 1970s hits were "(Don't Take Her) She's All I Got", "Someone To Give My Love To" and "Slide Off Of Your Satin Sheets".

Born in Greenfield, Ohio in 1938, PayCheck died in Nashville, TN, February of 2003. George Jones paid for his good friend's funeral.

Born April of 1928 in North Carolina, Don Gibson (nicknamed the Sad Poet) died of natural causes in Nashville, TN in November of 2003. In 2001, he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Also musical cousins Troy Seals and Brady Seals.

In June of 2007, Mel became a member of the Grand Ole Opry and in October of that year he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. In 1976 he received CMA's Entertainer of the Year award.

He is the father of six children including country singer Pam Tillis.
