Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Dimebag formed Pantera with his brother Vinnie Paul and who else?

Answer: No one. Pantera was his and Vinnie's band

He formed the band with his brother Vinne Paul. Dimebag was only fifteen years old when they formed Pantera. Pantera released their debut album in 1983, called "Metal Magic", with Terry Glaze on vocals. In 1986, Phil Anselmo joined the band to replace Terry Glaze. The rest of the Pantera albums were released with him.
2. How was Darrell Abbott credited on Pantera albums, before "Dimebag Darrell"?

Answer: Diamond Darrell

He had been called Diamond Darrell since their debut album, "Metal Magic", but he changed it to Dimebag Darrell in 1994, and "Far Beyond Driven" was the first album where he was credited as Dimebag Darrell.
3. Which band asked Darrell in 1988 to join them?

Answer: Megadeth

ave Mustaine asked him to join them in 1988. He heard of Pantera from Dave Ellefson's (Megadeth's bassist) girlfriend, who was a friend of the members of Pantera.

Dave Mustaine asked Dimebag to join them as a guitarist, but he said he agreed only if he can bring his brother, Vinnie Paul to be the drummer. Dave Mustaine rejected it because he had already hired Nick Menza as a drummer.

"I actually called him up and asked him to play in Megadeth," Mustaine told the Tampa Bay Times in a 2019 interview. "Fate would have completely changed if I would have called him before I called Nick Menza. I said, "Hey, Darrell, I'm looking for a guitar player." And he goes, "Can I bring my brother?" And I went, "Who's your brother?" He goes, "Vinnie Paul! Don't you know Vinnie Paul?"
4. How old was Dimebag during the recording of Pantera's debut album, "Metal Magic"?

Answer: Sixteen

He was only sixteen when they recorded it and his brother Vinnie was nineteen. "Metal Magic" was recorded in 1982 and Dimebag Darrell was born in 1966. The album was followed by the 1984 "Projects in the Jungle" and the 1985 "I Am the Night". These three albums were the only ones with Terry Glaze on vocals and they are often mislabeled as glam metal, but in fact they are more like normal heavy metal.
5. What was Dimebag's signature phrase?

Answer: Getcha pull

He had been saying it all his life and numerous times in the "Dimevision" DVD. Nobody knows where it came from.
6. How did Dimebag die?

Answer: He got shot onstage

Dimebag Darrell was shot onstage by a crazy fan, Nathan Gale, in 2004. He ran onto the stage and shot Dimebag a couple times. Gale also shot fans and he would have killed the rest of the band if policeman James Niggemeyer hadn't shot him to disable him.

Pantera split up in 2001 and the Abbott brothers formed their new band, Damageplan. They would release only one album called "New Found Power". Dimebag was buried in the Moore Memorial Gardens in Arlington, Texas.
7. In which movie's soundtrack did Dimebag appear?

Answer: Buffy the Vampire Slayer

He played the guitar in the song "The Light Comes Out of Black", which also featured the Metalgod, Rob Halford on vocals. Rob Halford recommended Darrell to the studio.

Halford said this in a 2006 interview: "I was in Canada rehearsing for the Painkiller tour, and I saw Dimebag on MuchMusic wearing a British Steel T-shirt. I called the studio and said, "Is that guy still there? This is Rob from Priest!" They went and got him. They said, "He's freaking out, you know; he would love to meet you!" I said, "Ask him to stay, if he can, and I'll just jump in a cab and come over to the studio." So I did and that was the first time we met. We became instant friends."

"Ace Ventura" featured Cannibal Corpse in a scene and the Iron Man movies featured a lot of songs by AC/DC in their soundtracks.
8. Which great friend of Dimebag sang the song "In This River" in 2007 at the Rock Walk Induction of Dimebag Darrell at Hollywood Guitar Centre?

Answer: Zakk Wylde (the guitarist of Ozzy Osbourne)

Zakk Wylde was one of Dimebag's closest friends.

Zakk Wylde said this in a 2014 interview: "I first met Dime at Donington. The headliners were Pantera, then Extreme, and then Aerosmith. Pantera's live show was unrivaled, the sheer power that came off the stage was so ridiculously mind-blowing, it was actually funny! It's like you hear people talking about seeing Van Halen back in the day -- like '78 or '79 -- or Led Zeppelin at the Fillmore when they first came out. It was ridiculous, like, "Oh my God!!!" You knew that you were witnessing history, that these guys were special. The sheer power coming off the stage, and the musicianship, too. It was like Van Halen on steroids."

"In This River" is a Black Label Society song. He wrote it as a tribute to his friend. He also used Dimebag's guitar tone in the song.
9. Which album did NOT feature Dimebag Darrell?

Answer: Slayer - "Divine Intervention"

"Voodoo" was King Diamond's eighth studio album, released in 1998. Darrell played the guitar on the title track. The album is a concept album and it tells a story of the Lafayette family, who move to an old house on the Mississippi river, built next to a voodoo graveyard.

"Stomp 442" was Anthrax's seventh studio album and the second with former Armored Saint singer, John Bush. Dimebag played the guitar on the songs "King Size" and "Riding Shotgun". He was a good friend of the Anthrax guys.

"Rebel Meets Rebel" is a David Allan Coe with Vinne Paul, Rex Brown and Dimebag Darell album. It was released in 2006, but it included recordings from the time when Dimebag was alive.

Although Dimebag Darell and Pantera were great friends of the members of Slayer, he didn't play on their 1994 album.
10. Which band's huge fan was Dimebag (he had a tattoo on his stomach of them)?

Answer: Kiss

Kiss was his favorite band. He had been obsessed with them since he started to play the guitar. He even had an Ace Frehley tattoo on his stomack. You can clearly hear the influence of Kiss on Pantera's first couple albums.
