John Fred & His Playboy Band sang "Judy In Disguise (With Glasses)". It was number one for two weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 for John Fred & His Playboy Band in 1968. It peaked at number three on the UK Singles Chart the same year. The group first charted on the Billboard Hot 100 with "Shirley" as John Fred and the Playboys in 1959. "Shirley" peaked at number 82. Their third record to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 was "Hey Hey Bunny" which peaked at number 57 in 1968. That alas, was it chartwise for John Fred & His Playboy Band.

The Beatles sang "Can't Buy Me Love". It was number one for three weeks on the UK Singles Chart for The Beatles in 1964. It was number one for five weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 the same year. "Can't Buy Me Love" was The Beatles' fourth UK and third US number one hit. It was written by Paul McCartney in the George V hotel in Paris, France, but credited to Lennon/McCartney. In 1964 The Beatles were performing a number of concerts at the Olympic theatre in Paris and recorded "Can't Buy Me Love" on 29 January at EMI's Pathe Marconi studios in Paris.

They all co-operated with this, probably thinking that in the wake of the Olympics it would be successful, but it had disastrous reviews and closed due to poor ticket sales in June 2013. He along with brothers Carl and Dennis, cousin Mike Love and friend Al Jardine formed The Beach Boys. There were other members of the group at different times: David Marks, Bruce Johnston and Ricky Fataar. In 1964 and 1965, Glen Campbell was a temporary replacement for Brian Wilson at Beach Boy concerts.

In 2010, Larrikin Records successfully sued Hay and Strykert, their record label (Sony) and their music publishing company (EMI Songs Australia) because of the appropriation without attribution of "Kookaburra" (a 1932 Australian nursery rhyme) for the flute line in "Down Under".
