Answer: Telstar

The Telstar, a satallite, was launched in the early 60s. President Kennedy promised a man on the moon by the end of the decade and the space programmes followed one another in quick succession. Mercury and Gemini were programmes leading up to the famous Apollo sequence which delivered on JFK's promise in 1969. Sputnik was a Russian space programme.
2. Frank Zappa was crazy about doo-wop music. He recorded lots of songs in that tradition with The Mothers Of Invention. One of those is called "The Air". On which 60s double album was it released?

Answer: Uncle Meat

"Uncle Meat" was the only double album The Mothers released in the 60s.
3. After a succesful period with songwriter/producer duo Chinn and Chapman, "Love Is Like Oxygen" was a self-penned and self-produced hit for which act?

Answer: The Sweet

Mud and Quatro were from the Chinn/Chapman stable also. Gary Glitter wrote and produced his own 70s hits, together with Mike Leander.
4. "The Wind Cries Mary" was Jimi Hendrix' third single on Track Records. What was the B-side?

Answer: Highway Chile

"Stone Free" was the B-side to "Hey Joe", "51th Anniversary" was the flipside of "Purple Haze" and "The Stars That Play With Laughung Sam's Dice" was paired to "The Burning Of The Midnight Lamp".
5. Donovan name-checks the Jefferson Airplane on which song from his "Sunshine Superman" album?

Answer: Fat Angel

"Fly Jefferson Airplane, get you there on time" was the line, it replaces "Fly Translove Airways, get you there on time" in one of the choruses.
"Season Of The Witch" got famous through the cover version by Al Kooper and Steve Stills on the "Supersession" album, a special edit of that version even got released on a 45. "Three King Fishers" was a typo made on the original cover, the song's lyrics are actually about Twelve King Fishers ...
6. J.J. Cale's "Call Me The Breeze" is a staple in Lynyrd Skynyrd's live repertoire. On which album is the studio version?

Answer: Second Helping

Of course it's also on their "One More From The Road" album, but that's a live recording, right?
J.J. Cale's original version is on his legendary "Naturally" album. He admitted he recorded his songs in the simplest possible settings to make it attractive for other artists to record cover versions.
7. "Windy" was one of the great sunshine-pop hits of the 60s and was sung and played by which band?

Answer: The Association

The Turtles had hits with great songs like "Happy Together", "She'd Rather Be With Me" and "Elenore", The Beau Brummels scored in the early days of the Beatlemania with "Laugh Laugh" and "Just A Little" and Harper's Bizarre had their moment of fame with Paul Simon's "59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy)".
8. Which band, of "Easy Rider" fame, went on a "Magic Carpet Ride"?

Answer: Steppenwolf

The Byrds took a ride with their "Chestnut Mare". The success of the "Easy Rider" soundtrack came too late for both Fraternity Of Man and The Electric Prunes. Because of personnel problems they were never able to capitalize on it. Fraternity Of Man lead-singer Martin Kibbee co-wrote a couple of songs for Little Feat with his old high-school buddy Lowell George in the 70s.
9. "Orange Skies" is one of the songs on Love's "Da Capo", it was one of the first albums to boast a side-long freak-out jam. Which track is not on "Da Capo"?
