Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "In the quiet silent seconds I turned off the light switch And I came down to meet you in the half light the moon left While a cluster of night jars sang some songs out of tune A mantle of bright light shone down from a room"

Answer: Come Down In Time

The second song on "Tumbleweed Connection", my favorite Elton album.
2. "Yeah I looked at my watch and it said a quarter to five The headlines screamed that i was still alive I couldn't understand it I thought I died last night"

Answer: Grow Some Funk of Your Own

From "Rock of the Westies", a hard-rockin', very underrated album.
3. "I'm not a rat to be spat on locked up in this room Those bars that look towards the sun at night look towards the moon Everyday the swallows play in the clouds of love Make me wish that I had wings take me high above"

Answer: Empty Sky

From Elton's first album, "Empty Sky", recorded in 1969. Not as good as his next 8 or 9 albums, but very listenable.
4. "There's a fly in the window A dog in the yard And a year since i saw you There's a trunk in the corner I keep all my letters My bills and demands i keep too"

Answer: Elderberry Wine

One of the better entries from Elton John and Bernie Taupin's remarkably successful mid-1970s run, "Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player". The best-known songs on this album are "Crocodile Rock" and "Daniel".
5. "I got frostbitten in the winter Ice skating on the river With my pretty little black-eyed girl She'd make your darn toes curl just to see her"

Answer: Suzie (dramas)

From "Honky Chateau", my second favorite Elton effort. This album includes "Rocket Man" and "Honky Cat"
6. "Hello, baby hello Haven't seen your face for a while Have you quit doing time for me Or are you still the same spoiled child"

Answer: Harmony

The last song on "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road", which is usually considered Elton's best album. I think it's very good, although a bit uneven.
7. "I took myself a blue canoe And i floated like a leaf Dazzling, dancing Half enchanted In my merlin sleep"

Answer: Where To Now St. Peter?

Another excellent track from "Tumbleweed Connection". Guns N Roses singer Axl Rose reportedly once said he would love to own the publishing rights to this album as a work of art.
8. ""an extremely quiet child" they called you in your school reports "he's always taken interest in the subjects that he's taught" So what was it that brought the squad car screaming up your drive To notify your parents of the manner in which you died"

Answer: Ticking

From "Caribou", which was the first album recorded at the famous Caribou Ranch in Colorado. This album had "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me" and "The Bitch Is Back". "Ticking" is probably the saddest lyric ever written by Bernie.
9. "Peering out of tiny eyes The grubby hands that gripped the rail Wiped the window clean of frost As the morning air laid on the latch"

Answer: The Greatest Discovery

From "Elton John", Elton's second album. This is a song about a new child in the household from the view point of the first-born child.
10. "Like a corn in a field I cut you down I threw the last punch too hard After years of going steady, well I thought that it was time To throw in my hand for a new set of cards"

Answer: I Feel Like A Bullet (in The Gun Of Robert Ford)

Back to "Rock of the Westies". This song reached #14 in early 1976. Robert Ford was reputed to have shot Jesse James.
