With the late release of "Physical Graffiti" in 1975, the excitement of the impending Zeppelin visit had brought all six Zeppelin albums on the chart. In addition, the three Swan Song LPs (Bad Company, Maggie Bell, and the Pretty Things) held respectable chart positions as well. The nine was the apex of Led Zeppelins business career and an unprecedented coup.

In April 1980 Led Zeppelin began to rehearse for a short tour of Europe, the plan was to play fourteen shows. It would be Led Zeppelin's first European shows since 1973. Richard Cole fell out with his employer before this tour. Peter Grant had decided that Cole was too wasted to do his job.

In a stupor, Cole had uttered a vague threat against Grant's children, which got back to Grant. Richard was fired. He flew to Italy to try and kick heroin, checking into the Excelsior Hotel in Rome. At dawn the following morning, Italian counter-terrorism police broke down the door.

They confiscated two switchblades, three syringes, a spoon, and an eighth of an ounce of what the police said was cocaine. Richard Cole was charged with terrorism and sent to the maximum security Regina Coeli prison in Rome.

The two minute acoustic solo from the 1975 album Physical Grafitti, Bron-Yr-Aur was initially written and recorded in 1970 during the sessions for Led Zep 3, named after a cottage in Gwynedd Wales,where the band spent time during the recording of the 3rd album. It is also the shortest studio recording by the band.
