Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. 'All the Young Dudes,' by Mott the Hoople

Answer: David Bowie

Mott the Hoople was on the verge of breaking up in 1972. Bowie, a huge fan of the band, talked them into staying together and offered them one of the songs he'd recently written, but not yet recorded. Ian Hunter and company passed on 'Suffragette City,' but enjoyed the biggest commercial hit of their career with 'All the Young Dudes.'
2. 'Everytime You Go Away,' by Paul Young

Answer: Daryl Hall

This song can actually be found on Hall and Oates' 1980 album 'Voices,' but it was never released as a single. Paul Young's cover of the song topped the U.S. charts five years later.
3. 'Shameless,' by Garth Brooks

Answer: Billy Joel

The original version of 'Shameless' can be found on Billy Joel's 1989 album, 'Storm Front.' Brooks released his version two years later on 'Ropin' the Wind.'
4. 'I've Done Everything For You,' by Rick Springfield

Answer: Sammy Hagar

Hagar's version of this song can be found on his 1978 album 'All Night Long.' He was told that Springfield had taken to playing the song in concert a year or two later, and when Hagar attended a performance, he was so impressed with the rendition that he suggested Springfield feature the song on his 1981 album 'Working Class Dog.' The result was a top ten hit.
5. 'Crazy,' by Patsy Cline

Answer: Willie Nelson

Well before Nelson rose to fame, he was a studio musician and Nashville songwriter. 'Crazy' was released in 1961.
6. 'Light of Day,' by The Barbusters (Joan Jett and Michael J. Fox's band in the 1987 movie 'Light of Day')

Answer: Bruce Springsteen

Springsteen wrote this song specifically for the film's soundtrack. He wound up performing a version of it himself in his 1992 'MTV Unplugged' special.
7. 'I'm a Believer,' by The Monkees

Answer: Neil Diamond

Diamond wrote several of the songs recorded by The Monkees. 'I'm a Believer' charted in 1967, and was covered in 2001 by Smash Mouth.
8. 'You've Got a Friend,' by James Taylor

Answer: Carole King

King was one of the most prolific and successful songwriters of the 1960's and 1970's. Taylor relased this particular song in 1971.
9. 'Mama Told Me Not To Come,' by Three Dog Night

Answer: Randy Newman

Long before he found success with 'Short People,' Randy penned this number one hit. It was released in 1970.
10. 'Nothing Compares 2 U,' by Sinead O'Connor

Answer: Prince

The 'rebus' style of the title probably gave this one away. O'Connor released this song, her biggest hit, in 1990. Prince himself can be heard performing the song on his 1993 album 'The Hits, The B-Sides.'
