In the U.S., it reached number nine on the Billboard Hot Soul Singles chart and number six on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart. The LP reached number thirteen on the U.S. Top Soul Albums chart only because of the song "Scorpio". It also reached number thirty six on the U.S. Billboard Pop Albums chart.

The ARP-2600 synthesizer was the main instrument in the song and Edgar Winter knew how to play it well.

The title of the song from 1969 - 1975 was "Moby Dick" which is the title that stuck and also the title on the "Led Zeppelin II" LP. During the 1977 American tour the title was "Over The Top" because the solo began with the opening riff to the band's song titled "Out On The Tiles".
