Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Easy" was the one word title of this ballad by The Commodores. Who wrote and sang lead on the song?

Answer: Lionel Richie

"Easy" was the third top ten hit for The Commodores according to the Billboard charts. It peaked at #4 in July, 1977. Lionel Richie left the group in 1981 to pursue a solo career. The Commodores scored eight top ten hits before Lionel left and one more-"Nightshift" after he departed.
2. What song from the movie "Nashville" won the Oscar for Best Song in 1975?

Answer: I'm Easy

Director Robert Altman requested his actors for the movie to write their own original songs. Keith Carradine wrote "I'm Easy", sang it in the movie and also performed it on the Academy Awards in 1975. Among the songs it beat out was the theme from "Mahogany", aka "Do You Know Where You're Going To?"
3. Who wrote and originally recorded "It's So Easy (To Fall In Love)"?

Answer: Buddy Holly

Linda Ronstadt had a big hit with a cover version of the song 18 years after Buddy's tragic death in a plane crash in 1959. Ironically, Buddy's version didn't even crack the Top 40, while Linda's remake reached #5 on the "Billboard" charts.
4. Charlie Rich had a crossover hit when he sang "She's got that_____" what?

Answer: Easy Look

Although he had been on the music scene for years and had a few hits, Charlie "The Silver Fox" Rich didn't become a superstar until the early 70s when he recorded "Behind Closed Doors". That became his signature song and he followed it with many other successful hits. "Easy Look" peaked at #12 on the "Billboard" country charts.
5. The Eagles had an easy "feeling" in this classic song. What kind of feeling was it?

Answer: Peaceful Easy Feeling

"Peaceful Easy Feeling" only peaked at #22 on the "Billboard" Top 40 charts in 1973. Their breakup in 1982 was bitter, but their live comeback album "Hell Freezes Over" went to #1 on the "Billboard" album charts and remained there for two weeks, signaling their reunion as a group.
6. Veteran country singer Freddie Hart hit the top of the charts with this "Easy" ballad. What was it?

Answer: Easy Loving

"Easy Loving" was the first of six consecutive #1 records on the "Billboard" country charts for Freddie Hart. It also crossed over into the Top 40, peaking at #17. A veteran singer-songwriter at age 46 by the time he recorded "Easy Loving", Freddie was living proof that perseverance can pay off.
7. What 70s classic rock group scored their biggest hit with "Easy Livin"?

Answer: Uriah Heep

"Easy Livin" was Uriah Heep's only Top 40 hit. Keyboardist and songwriter Ken Hensley became a born-again Christian following the breakup of the band and went into semi-retirement, living in St. Louis, Missouri and operating a Christian-based recording studio called "Upper Room Music".
8. Bobby G. Rice may not have been a household name, but this veteran country star scored a pretty big hit with this "Easy" song. What was it?

Answer: You Lay So Easy On My Mind

"You Lay So Easy On My Mind" was the first, and biggest, of four Top 10 country hits for Wisconsin native Bobby G. Rice, peaking at #3 in early 1973.
9. One of Eddy Arnold's early country hits was called "Easy On The______" what?

Answer: Eyes

"Easy On The Eyes" went to #1 on the Billboard country charts in early 1952. In the 60s, Eddy was one of the first country artists to employ a string orchestra on his recordings and live shows and was considered the father of the "Countrypolitan" sound, fusing tradtional country with an easy listening "pop" style.
10. Burt Bacharach and Hal David wrote this "Easy" song that was a big hit for Jerry Butler. What was it?

Answer: Make It Easy On Yourself

Nicknamed "The Ice Man" Jerry Butler's smooth, cool baritone was perfect for this classic. It only peaked at #20 on the Billboard Top 40 charts, but it paved the way for several bigger hits for this former lead singer of The Impressions. Jerry can still be seen MCing many of those PBS "My Music" specials and his voice sounds as good as ever.
