Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Finish this Rolling Stones song title "You Can't Always Get ___ ".

Answer: What You Want

"You Can't Always Get What You Want" was recorded in 1968 and features the London Bach Choir as well as Jimmy Miller taking the drum duties for Charlie Watts. The song features a character named Mr. Jimmy and two people have claimed they were the inspiration for the character. One of them is a man from Minnesota named Jimmy Hutmaker and the other a friend of some of the band members, Jimmy Phelge.
2. Finish the lyric from "The Last Time". "Well I told you once, and I told you twice but you never ____".

Answer: Listen to my advice

"The Last Time" was a UK number one hit for the Rolling Stones. Early in their career the Stones had done this song on TV shows including "The Ed Sullivan Show" and "Top of the Pops".
3. What number is missing from the following Rolling Stones song title "___ Nervous Breakdown"?

Answer: 19th

This song contains some great work from Brian Jones and was released as a single in both the U.S. and UK in February 1966, with another famous song called "As Tears Go By" the UK B-Side. "19th Nervous Breakdown" was recorded in California in late 1965 following their recent tour.
4. Which song off of "Sticky Fingers" has the following lyrics in it? "I'm gonna tear my hair out just for you If you don't believe what I'm singing At three o'clock in the morning babe, well I'm singing my song for you"

Answer: I Got the Blues

This is a very slow paced blues song that is in the style of some of the great Stax Records recordings and those of Otis Redding. There is some very good organ work by Billy Preston on the song.
5. On what Rolling Stones album will you find the first appearance of "She's a Rainbow"?

Answer: Their Satanic Majesties Request

"Their Satanic Majesties Request" was the Rolling Stones' stab at the psychedelic genre that was popular at the time. The string section on "She's a Rainbow" was organized by future Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones. One of the more intriguing aspects of the song, and album, is wondering if the Stones were at times not taking the songs entirely seriously.
6. This song from the album "It's Only Rock & Roll" featured Mick Jagger playing rhythm guitar, Billy Preston on clavinet and Charlie Jolly Kunjappu on a tabla. What is it?

Answer: Fingerprint File

This song came out a time when governments were keeping tabs on outspoken celebrities whose views weren't in line with those of the establishment. This song talks of an FBI man keeping a six foot high file of paper regarding the singer as well as the singer feeling like he is being constantly followed.
7. What was unusual about the Rolling Stones song "Going Home" when it was released in 1966?

Answer: It was over 10 minutes long

The song was over eleven minutes long at a time when most rock & roll songs were under five minutes. Some jazz and live songs were over ten minutes at the time, but that was all. This song is rightfully credited for being the first Rock & Roll song to venture into the over ten minute mark, but it lost steam along the way and could have worked best if some minutes were taken off.
8. This Rolling Stones song from "Exile on Main Street" has the singer reminding us "you know the deuce is still wild" and that he's looking for "a partner in crime".

Answer: Tumbling Dice

This song took some time to come to complete formation, as its raw original form, originally known as "Good Time Woman", was first toyed with during the "Sticky Fingers" days. The Stones took time to perfect this song to their liking, even during the final recordings for the album. It unfortunately did not reach that upper echelon of great Stones songs, but will always be a good one.
9. This Rolling Stones song has its title borrowed by a 2002 movie which starred Dustin Hoffman & Susan Sarandon. What is its name?

Answer: Moonlight Mile

This is a very moving song where Mick lets his guard down when writing as he paints a picture of how tough it can be touring the world. Some have said the line "Head full of snow" refers to drugs, but from my experience the lyrics relate to anyone taking a train or bus many miles home on a wet snowy day.
10. In America the Rolling Stones first version of "Time is on My Side" was released on the album "12 x 5". What was the first British released album to feature the song?

Answer: The Rolling Stones No.2

This song put the Rolling Stones on the map in the U.S. and was their first top 10 hit in America with their version of the song sung by Irma Thomas. This song is one of the blues/soul songs that were a staple of the Stones' music. There is both an extended version of this song which has more blues guitar and a shorter version that gives the song a gospel feel with organ work.
