Jeff was born in the OC, on November 17, 1966, but later moved to New York where he played numerous gigs at a tiny club in New Yorks' east village. After making it big, he toured Australia on his "Hard Luck Tour" and began rehearsing and preparing for his new record in 1997 in Memphis, Tennessee.
2. What was the name of the tiny club that Jeff played at often in New Yorks east village?

Answer: Sin-e

Answer: "Je N'en Connais Pas Le Fin", "The Way Young Lovers Do", "Mojo Pin" and "Eternal Life"

His first commercial recording, the four-song EP "Live At Sin-e", was released in December 1993. It included two original songs ("Mojo Pin" and "Eternal Life") and two covers (Edith Piaf's "Je N'en Connais Pas Le Fin" and Van Morrison's "The Way Young Lovers Do").
4. On Jeff's first album, "Grace", what three songs are covers?

Answer: "Hallelujah", "Lilac Wine" and "Corpus Christi Carol"

"Grace" was comprised of 7 original songs ("Mojo Pin", "Grace", "Last Goodbye", "So Real", "Lover", "You Should Have Come Over", "Eternal Life", "Dream Brother") and 3 covers ("Lilac Wine", Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" and Benjamin Britten's "Corpus Christi Carol").
5. Which of these places did Jeff tour in 1994?

6. By September 1996, Jeff had begun to enjoy playing unnannounced solo gigs.In December 1996, he embarked on his "Phantom Solo Tour", a series of unannounced solo gigs played under a succession of aliases. Which of these were not one of his aliases?

Answer: A Puppet Show Named Buckley

During his "Phantom Solo Tour", Jeff used aliases such as "The Crackrobats", "Possessed By Elves", "Father Demo", "Smackrobiotic", "Crit Club", "Topless America", "Martha & the Nicotines" and "A Puppet Show Named Julio".
7. On February 9, 1997, Jeff Buckley debuted his new drummer. What was his name?

Answer: Parker Kindred

Drummer Matt Johnson left the group after the final Australian show. In May of '96, Jeff played four gigs as a bass player with Mind Science of the Mind, a side-project of Buckley's friend, Nathan Larson of Shudder To Think. On February 9, 1997, Jeff Buckley debuted his new drummer, Parker Kindred, in a show at Arlene's Grocery on New York's Lower East Side. He also played a couple of solo gigs in New York during the first months of 1997: a gig at the Daydream Cafe (featuring band members Mick Grondahl and Michael Tighe as "special guests").
8. Who did Jeff originally perform with around 1991-92 at places like the Knitting Factory?

Answer: Gary Lucas

In addition to his Columbia Records releases, Live At Sin-é and Grace, Jeff Buckley has appeared as a guest artist on several other recordings. He can be heard singing "Jolly Street," a track on the Jazz Passengers 1994 album In Love. He contributed tenor vocals to "Taipan" and "D. Popylepis", two recordings on John Zorn's Cobra Live At The Knitting Factory (1995). On Rebecca Moore's Admiral Charcoal's Song, Buckley plays electric six-string bass on "If You Please Me", "Outdoor Elevator", and "Needle Men" (on which he also plays drums).

He both plays guitar and sings backup vocals on Brenda Kahn's "Faith Salons", a key track on her "Destination Anywhere" album (released 1996). Patti Smith's critically acclaimed "Gone Again" album features Buckley adding "voice" to the song "Beneath the Southern Cross" and essrage (a small fretless Indian stringed instrument) to "Fireflies."
9. Mary Guibert described the tracks on which of Jeffs albums as "individual performances that represented transcendent moments from each of the concerts we'd identified as being in the 'overall outstanding' category"?

Answer: Mystery White Boy

"It was obvious which performances were contenders for the record," concurs Michael Tighe, "and in some cases a performance would be so supreme and unpredictable that I knew it had to be brought to the public".
10. When did Jeffery Scott Buckley die?

Answer: May 29, 1997

His passing didn't make headlines the way the 90s rock deaths of Kurt Cobain and Michael Hutchence did -- Buckley was still languishing in the statues of best-kept secret.
He died in Memphis, May 29, 1997, recording his second album, the follow up to his critic-wowing debut "Grace". Buckley drowned while swimming in the river. He was 30.
