Now it's a future for me and you that I lack

Question 3 of 10
3. "She said that she was working for the ABC News
It was as much of the alphabet as she knew how to use
Her perfume was unspeakable
It lingered in the air
Like her artificial laughter
Her mementos of affairs."

Elvis can dish up the insults with the best of them, and yet, it's as if I'm reading verse from a poetry anthology! Name the song from "King Of America."

Like a picture of Prince William in the arms of John the Pope.
There's a world of good intentions, and pity in their eyes,
The sedated homes of England, are theirs to vandalize."

No clue this time around. Can you name the song?

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Elvis assumed an alias in the musician credits of "King Of America." Which is it?

Answer: The Little Hands Of Concrete

Not sure what it means, but L.H.C. (The Little Hands Of Concrete) is credited for Elvis. Ironically, the writing credits all go to MacManus (his birth name), and not Elvis.
2. "Then you took two steps forward and then one step on your back Now it's a future for me and you that I lack You'll be the one who'll stands out in the dark Even when you're all dressed in black." "Blood & Chocolate" is filled with angry songs and this is one of them. Name the song.

Answer: Next Time Round

Nick Lowe, along with Colin Fairley, produced the album. Nick also plays acoustic guitar on "Next Time Round."
3. "She said that she was working for the ABC News It was as much of the alphabet as she knew how to use Her perfume was unspeakable It lingered in the air Like her artificial laughter Her mementos of affairs." Elvis can dish up the insults with the best of them, and yet, it's as if I'm reading verse from a poetry anthology! Name the song from "King Of America."

Answer: Brilliant Mistake

Elvis broke away from "The Attractions" for "King Of America" and used a number of talented session men including Jim Keltner (drums) and Jerry Scheff (bass).
4. Another album, another nom de plume (well, sort of). "Blood & Chocolate" features another alias for the musician credits. Which is it this time?

Answer: Napoleon Dynamite

Another strange accounting of the credits. Napoloen Dynamite is listed as the musician and MacManus writes all the songs except for "I Hope You're Happy Now," which is credited to Costello. Is anyone else confused?
5. "It's the stupid details that my heart is breaking for It's the way your shoulders shake and what they're shaking for it's knowing that he knows you now after only guessing." This angst-ridden ballad is a classic found on "Blood & Chocolate." Name the song. (Remind me not to get on Elvis' bad side.)

Answer: I Want You

Following "King Of America," Elvis reunited with The Attractions to record "Blood & Chocolate."
6. The lyrics "King Of America" and "Blood & Chocolate" can each be found in the opening line of each respective album. Can you name the two opening songs that contain these lyrics?

Answer: "Brilliant Mistake" and "Uncomplicated"

Elvis Costello was born Declan Patrick MacManus in 1954 in London, UK.
7. "It's like shouting in a matchbox, filled with plasterboard and hope, Like a picture of Prince William in the arms of John the Pope. There's a world of good intentions, and pity in their eyes, The sedated homes of England, are theirs to vandalize." No clue this time around. Can you name the song?

Answer: Little Palaces

Elvis played acoustic guitar and mandolin on this track. The only other performer was Jerry Scheff on bass. The album was produced by T-Bone Burnett and Elvis Costello with Larry Kalman Hirsch.
8. "King Of America" and "Blood & Chocolate," as well as numerous other Elvis albums have been reissued as 'Deluxe Editions' with additional tracks and demos on what label?

Answer: Rhino

Rhino has done an excellent job with these reissues. They all contain new liner notes written by Elvis as well as "an entire bonus disc featuring an assortment of outtakes, demos, live performances, and previously unreleased material." Save your pennies and buy, buy, buy.
9. "He says 'One day I'll throw away all of my cares And it is always Christmas in a cupboard at the top of the stairs'" Great lyric. Can you name the song?

Answer: Battered Old Bird

Another poetic song filled with wonderful images from "Blood & Chocolate." And from the Elvis Costello Home Page: "A limited edition of the UK cassette version (only on sale in Virgin stores) was issued in a package resembling a Cadbury's Bournville chocolate bar, but was later withdrawn due to complaints from Cadbury's. This collectors item is worth much more if unopened."
10. Ah, the trials and tribulations of love. Can you name the song? "Here comes Mr. Misery He'll never be any good with a mouth full of gold and blood He's contemplating murder again He must be in love."

Answer: Home Is Anywhere You Hang Your Head

"Blood & Chocolate" went gold in the UK and topped out at #16, while it only went to #84 in The States.
