Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which multi-talented Korean performer who sings, dances, models, acts, and started his own entertainment company, had a big hit with "Rainism"?

Answer: Rain

In Korea Rain is either called "Bi" which is Korean for rain or his real name Jeong Ji-Hun. In 2008 he appeared in 'Speed Racer' and in 2009, he had a starring role in the film "Ninja Assassin". In the early two thousands, he appeared on the popularity lists like 'People' and 'Time' and the latter sparked a funny incident with the popular US television entertainer Stephen Colbert. Pretending to resent Rain's beating him in the ratings, Colbert would challenge Rain to various things and eventually a "Dance Dance Revolution" competition in which Rain won because he burned the machine up.

Another of Rain's dreams was to design clothing and he created a company named JTuneCreative with a clothing line called 'Five to Six'. Rain grew up in poverty and his mother suffered and died early from diabetes and he often states publicly that he feels that she is looking down on him to guide him.

He participates in many charity events.
2. Which of these "numerical" Korean girls' groups had the big hits "I Don't Care" and "Fire"?

Answer: 2ne1

2ne1 also did an advertisement for Baskin-Robbins ice cream during which they sing 'Baskin-Robbins 31' dressed in pink of course! In 'I Don't Care' they sing half in English and half in Korean about a 'Playboy' who is going out with another girl. 2ne1 is yet another group created by an entertainment company.

They were accused of having plagiarized with "I Don't Care" because of its resemblance to Lionel Richie's "Just Go" but no further action was taken after an initial inquiry.
3. Korean popstar G-Dragon had his first big solo hit with 'Heartbreaker'. Sometimes he sang with a 'cosmic' group. What is their name?

Answer: Big Bang

Big Bang is known for its choreographed routines on the stage and flamboyant hip hop style dressing style. They often team up with 2ne1.
4. Which of these 'sweet' advertising songs for a mobile/cell phone was performed together by two famous Korean pop groups?

Answer: Lollipop

2ne1 and Big Bang sang this very popular song for the Korean manufacturer LG's phone. The song does not resemble the old fifties classic "Lollipop" sung by the Chordettes or others. LG was very wise to corner the boy and girl fan market with this song for a snappy product.
5. Here's another popular Korean girls' group known for their hits "Muzik" and "Hot Issue". What's their "timely" name?

Answer: 4 minute

In 2009, the Korean Broadcasting or KBS said that one of the group's songs "Won't Give" was too hot to be aired. The group countered by saying it was not about sex but about a girl's true feelings and that they were disappointed in the ban.
6. Which of these Korean pop stars is known for the song 'Eat You Up'?

Answer: BOA

Kwon Boa is the artist's real name. Her stage name BOA is said to stand for Beat of Angel. She has recorded in Korean, English, Japanese and Mandarin Chinese.
7. Which of these girls' groups known in Korea for their meeting with the Jonas Brothers sang, "Nobody", "Tell Me" and "So Hot"?

Answer: Wonder Girls

Wonder Girls were auditioned for the group which performed dance routines that fans loved. The "Tell Me" dance craze was so popular that they called it the "Tell Me Virus".
8. Which of these "priceless" girls' groups sang "One More Time", "Vari2ty" and "Strong Girls"?

Answer: Jewelry

When this group debuted, they adopted a cute way of dressing and a girly way of dancing. Then, moving with the times, they began to look and sing in a tough mature style as many of the Korean pop groups did. K-pop tends to emulate US R and B and Hip hop groups on stage.
9. One of these large girls' groups called So Nyeo Shi Dae sang "Tell Me Your Wish" and "Gee" has an English name. What is it?

Answer: Girls generation

In Korean 'son ya' means girl and "shi de" means generation.
10. This flashy boys' group had a catchy hit with 'Ring Ding Dong' and also sang 'Love Like Oxygen' and 'Juliette'. Who are they?

Answer: Shinee

In their onstage appearances, you can see why they are considered style icons with their carefully styled lightened hair, colorful sweaters and skinny jeans that they allegedly borrowed from the girls' group So ya shi de. It is called the Shinee trend and many students try to dress this way. The style was created by designer Ha Sang Baek.
