Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What band features brothers Eddie and Alex Van Halen on guitar and drums, respectively?

Answer: Van Halen

Van Halen formed in 1972 under the name Mammoth. They changed their name in 1974. Eddie and Alex were original members along with David Lee Roth (vocals) and Michael Anthony (bass). Over their history, Van Halen has had the likes of Sammy Hagar and Gary Cherone (the Extreme) as its lead singers.

In the 2000s, Van Halen looked the same except Eddie's teenage son, Wolfgang, had become the bass player.
2. What is the name of the drummer for Nirvana who went on to form the Foo Fighters after Nirvana disbanded?

Answer: Dave Grohl

Dave Grohl was Nirvana's drummer from 1990 up until frontman Kurt Cobain's death in 1994. He started the Foo Fighters one year later as its lead singer and guitarist.
3. Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, and John Bonham are names of original members of what band?

Answer: Led Zeppelin

The almighty Led Zeppelin is considered by some to be the first and greatest hard rock band of all-time. They disbanded in 1980 after the death of drummer Bonham, reuniting only a handful of times with Bonham's son Jason on drums.
4. Which of these famous rock stars was murdered?

Answer: Dimebag Darrell Abbott

Ex-Pantera member Dimebag Darrell was shot and killed onstage by Nathan Gale in 2004 as a member of Damageplan. The death of Kurt Cobain of Nirvana was officially ruled as suicide in 1994. Lynyrd Skynyrd lead singer Ronnie Van Zant was killed in a 1977 plane crash that also claimed the lives of fellow band members Steve and Cassie Gaines. Duane Allman, guitarist for the Allman Brothers Band, was killed in a motorcycle crash in 1971.
5. What famous guitarist graduated from MIT with a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and invented the Rockman Amp?

Answer: Tom Scholz

Scholz founded the influential classic rock band Boston, famous for such songs as "More Than a Feeling", "Smokin'", and "Amanda". After going through a series of lineup changes, Scholz continued to play lead guitar for Boston.
6. What famous guitarist is known for his "windmill" guitar technique and for many smashed guitars?

Answer: Pete Townshend

Pete Townshend is one of two surviving original members of the classic rock band the Who. Over the years, he has continued being able to "shred".
7. What legendary lead singer once allegedly bit off the head of a bat onstage?

Answer: Ozzy Osbourne

Ozzy Osbourne has had a tremendous music career. He found success as the original lead singer for influential heavy metal band Black Sabbath and also found a successful solo career. He has played with such guitarists as Randy Rhoads from Quiet Riot and Zakk Wylde from Black Label Society.

In later years, he had a reality show and created Ozzfest. After the bat incident in 1982, he supposedly needed rabies shots. He has also bitten the head of a dove.
8. Which of the following musicians was an original member of Guns N' Roses?

Answer: Tracii Guns

Believe it or not, Tracii was the original lead guitarist of this group. Slash replaced Tracii (who went on to find success in the band LA Guns) three months after the founding of Guns N' Roses. The other original members were Axl Rose, Izzy Stradlin, Ole Beich, and Rob Gardner.
9. Finish the song lyric: "I wanna rock n roll all nite..."

Answer: and party every day

This song, of course, is the 1975 KISS anthem "Rock N Roll All Nite" off their album "Dressed to Kill". It is arguably the most well-known KISS song.
10. Which artist performed the song that was ranked number one on VH1's 2009 list of the 100 greatest hard rock songs?

Answer: Guns N' Roses

The song by Guns N' Roses was "Welcome to the Jungle". AC/DC had the number two spot ("Back in Black") and number 31 ("Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap"), while Led Zeppelin occupied spot three ("Whole Lotta Love"), and the Who came in at number six ("Won't Get Fooled Again") and 37 ("My Generation").
