Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A television show that featured a family traveling around in a school bus spawned this 1970 number one hit. Name the song.

Answer: I Think I Love You

All the listed songs were from "The Partridge Family", but the song we're looking for is their debut hit "I Think I Love You" which was released to coincide with the debut of the television series called "The Partridge Family". This focused on a fictional band formed from a family of children and their mother, that traveled to performances in a psychedelic painted school bus.

The song spent three weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 charts in the fall of 1970.
2. Being connected to some big names in Jamaica didn't hurt Johnny Nash. What was his comeback song in 1972 that topped the charts?

Answer: I Can See Clearly Now

Johnny Nash, a pop singer during the 1950s and 1960s had a hit single with "Hold Me Tight" in 1968, but then formed a record company and put recording on the backburner. He actually signed a group who would go on to have later success on a different label.

They were called "The Cowsills". He went to Jamaica in 1968 and signed a group called "The Wailers". One of the members of the group was Bob Marley. While in Jamaica he recorded the song "I Can See Clearly Now" among other songs. When he re-recorded the song in 1972 for release, it was part of an album of the same name, and a number of the tunes on the album were written by Bo Marley.

The song here was a number one tune on the Billboard charts, spending four weeks at the top in the fall of 1972.
3. Who is the girl the Rolling Stones sang about in 1973?

Answer: Angie

"Angie" was a number one tune for The Rolling Stones in 1973, spending one week at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 charts in the fall that year. There are stories abound about who the song is about, ranging from David Bowie's wife at the time, to Keith Richards' daughter named Angela, however the true meaning has never been revealed.
4. 1974 saw John Denver write and record this number one song as an ode to his then wife. What's the name of this song?

Answer: Annie's Song

Denver claimed to have written this song in about 10 minutes while on a ski lift while vacationing in Aspen Colorado. The song became a number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 charts for Denver in 1974 when it spent two weeks in the top spot during July that year, and also went to number one in the U.K.

The only mention of his wife Annie is in the title. She is not mentioned in the lyrics of the song, which made this a universal love song over the years, which could apply to anyone.
5. What artist said I "Feel Like Makin' Love" in 1974?

Answer: Roberta Flack

Roberta Flack scored the third number one single of her career with this tune when it topped the charts for one week during the summer of 1974. The song was written by Eugene McDaniels who had a successful singing career in the early 1960s with songs like "100 Pounds of Clay" and "Tower of Strength", both of which were Top 10 Billboard hits.
6. John Denver had a 1975 number one hit that extolled the virtues of his heritage. What song was this?

Answer: Thank God I'm a Country Boy

"Thank God I'm a Country Boy" was Denver's tribute to his heritage, and it became a number one song for him when it topped the Billboard Hot 100 charts for one week in the summer of 1975. The cut was a live version from an album called "An Evening with John Denver". The song was a number one tune on both the Hot 100 charts and the Country charts as well.
7. What was the 1976 K.C. and the Sunshine Band number one song that was inspired by dance moves?

Answer: (Shake Shake Shake) Shake Your Booty

All these were K.C. and the Sunshine Band releases but it was "(Shake Shake Shake) Shake Your Booty", which went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 charts for a week in the late summer of 1976. According to Richard Finch, one of the members of the band, the song was directly inspired by the moves seen on the dance floor at various clubs that the group performed in.
8. "Got to Give It Up" was a number one hit in 1977 for this icon of soul music. Who is this icon?

Answer: Marvin Gaye

All the choices were good musicians, but when talking about icons, Marvin Gaye stands out from this group. Gaye's "Got to Give It Up (Part 1)" spent a week at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 charts as well as five weeks on top of the R&B charts. The song was shortened from its 11 minute album cut to about a four minute version that was able to be played on radio stations.

The lyrics describe a man who is too shy to get on the dance floor, but eventually he loses himself in the music and gets to dancing after all.
9. 1977. Rocky is running through the streets of Philadelphia training for his big fight. He ends up on the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Arts with his hands stretched up in victory. What song is playing?

Answer: Gonna Fly Now

"Gonna Fly Now" is the music which plays in the background as Rocky runs through the streets training for his boxing match. Although it is known in some circles as the "Theme From Rocky", that is not the actual title of the song. Bill Conti wrote the tune which went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 charts for a one week stay in the summer of 1977.

Although it did not win, the song was nominated for an Academy Award that year.
10. The last hit the Eagles had in the 70s was this 1979 number one hit. What is its name?
