Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of these artists made a one-hit wonder over 15 minutes long?

Answer: Iron Butterfly

The hit was "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" and the full song was about 17 minutes long.
2. Out of all these artists that have been considered one-hit wonders, 3 of them have still had over 15 other singles that entered the charts on their homeland. Which one didn't?

Answer: Frankie Goes To Hollywood

All of these artists have been considered one-hit wonders, at least by Vh1 on their 100 Greatest One-Hit Wonders show, however, not all of them really deserve such a title, at least in the United Kingdom, since a-ha, Gary Numan and Spandau Ballet had at least 15 other singles that made the charts in the UK.
a-ha was classified as one-hit wonder due to the hit "Take On Me", however, they still had another #1 hit in the UK with "The Sun Always Shines On TV" and some of their other minor hits include "Hunting High And Low" (UK #5), "Cry Wolf" (UK #5) and "The Living Daylights" (UK #5).
Gary Numan was classified as a one-hit wonder due to the huge popularity of "Cars", although he still did have another #1 hit in the UK with "Are Friends Electric?", along with Tubeway Army. Some of his other minor hits are "We Are Glass" (UK #5), "Complex" (UK #6) and "She's Got Claws" (UK #6).
Spandau Ballet were classified as a one-hit wonder due to their hit "True". Although they never had another #1 hit in the UK, they did have other singles that reached high in the British charts, like "Gold" (UK #2), "Only When You Leave" (UK #3) and "To Cut A Long Story Short" (UK #5).
Frankie Goes To Hollywood were classified as a one-hit wonder due to the major hit single "Relax". However, they did have two other #1 hits in the UK: "Two Tribes" and "The Power Of Love". Still, they never had 15 other singles in the British charts, since they only released a total of 7 singles while they were together. They had more #1 hits than the other artists mentioned in this question, but never produced 15 singles.
3. One of these one-hit wonder bands had at least one member who was under 15 years of age when their song became a hit. Which one is that?

Answer: Musical Youth

Musical Youth became a one-hit wonder with the hit "Pass The Dutchie" in the winter of 1982. Patrick Waite, who died later in 1992, was in the band at the time and he was born in 1969. Therefore, by the time "Pass The Dutchie" became a hit, he was around 13 years of age.
4. One of these one-hit wonder musical artists has made over 15 albums. Which one?

Answer: Gary Numan

Gary Numan is the singer that produced the hit single "Cars". A total of 32 albums have been released under his name, including live recordings, authorized compilations, instrumental albums, remix projects, re-issues and collaborations.
5. 3 of these are one-hit wonder bands with over 15 members. The other one isn't. Which one is that?

Answer: Rick Dees and His Cast Of Idiots

Rick Dees and His Cast Of Idiots is actually just one man, a disc jockey who produced the hit single "Disco Duck". Obernkirchen Children's Choir is an actual children's choir with over 15 children in it, that sang the hit "The Happy Wanderer". Both USA For Africa and Band Aid were actually a group of artists well known, famous and successful on their own rights, but that have come together to produce one hit song in order to help the children in Africa. USA For Africa means United Support of Artists For Africa, and produced the hit single "We Are The World". Band Aid made "Do They Know It's Christmas?".

The artists in those groups are not one-hit wonders, but, when they came all together, they produced only one hit song. Therefore, the groups themselves (USA For Africa and Band Aid) are considered one-hit wonders, since no other hit was released under any of those names.

However, keep in mind that the artists involved in those groups are not all one-hit wonders.
6. Which of these one-hit wonder bands have stayed together up to 15 years after their song became a hit?

Answer: Devo

Devo's song that gave them the position of one-hit wonder was "Whip It", released in 1980 and, even 15 years after that, they have managed to stay together as a band.
7. In the United Kingdom, were there less than 15 one-hit wonders in the 1950s?

Answer: No

A total of 17 singles released in the 1950s were considered one-hit wonders.
8. Which of these one-hit wonder artists never managed any position over # 15 in the American charts (The Billboard Hot 100)?

Answer: Baha Men

Divinyls' "I Touch Myself" hit #4 in 1991.
Aqua's "Barbie Girl" hit #7 in 1997.
Lou Bega's "Mambo No. 5 (A Little Bit Of...)" hit #3 in 1999.

However, Baha Men's "Who Let The Dogs Out" only reached #40 in the American charts, in 2000.
9. Which one-hit wonder hit position # 15 on VH1's 100 Greatest One-Hit Wonders show, hosted by William Shatner?

Answer: 96 Tears

Convoy, by C. W. McCall, hit position 73; Seasons In The Sun, by Terry Jacks, hit position 30 and In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, by Iron Butterfly, hit position 19. Later, Vh1 made another 100 Greatest One-Hit Wonders, although it was no official show, with no host, where position 15 was occupied by Berlin's "Take My Breath Away".
10. In 3 of these one-hit wonders, the title of the song is heard over 15 times during the whole song. In which one isn't this so?

Answer: Video Killed The Radio Star

If you count the times 'Video Killed The Radio Star' is said (and I did, for this question), it is exactly 14. You can verify it if you want. No more nor less, exactly 14. Afterwards, the music fades and the expression 'Video Killed The Radio Star' is no longer heard.
11. Which of these one-hit wonders spent less than 15 days on the # 1 spot of the British charts?

Answer: Falco's "Rock Me Amadeus"

15 days are approximately 2 weeks.

"Nothing Compares 2 U" spent 4 weeks as #1 on the British charts.
"Pass The Dutchie" spent 3 weeks as #1 on the British charts.
"I Wanna Sex You Up" spent 3 weeks as #1 on the British charts.
However, "Rock Me Amadeus" spent only 1 week on the top of the British charts, therefore, less than 15 days.
12. Which of these songs became a one-hit wonder again for another musical artist over 15 years after its original release by the original composer of it?

Answer: Spirit In The Sky

Norman Greenbaum originally released "Spirit In The Sky", in 1969, becoming a one-hit wonder then. Later, in 1986, another group - Doctor and the Medics - released a cover version of the same song, which also became a one-hit wonder.
13. Which of these artists produced a one-hit wonder that had "15" in the title?

Answer: Marc Nelson

Marc Nelson was an early member of Boyz II Men, and recorded two Top 40 hits as a member of Az Yet, but, as a solo artist, he only had one hit in the US: "15 Minutes".
14. Did Los Del Río's "Macarena", remixed by the Bayside Boys, stay at # 1 for over 15 weeks in the USA's Billboard Hot 100?

Answer: No

"Macarena" (Bayside Boys remix) only managed to stay 14 weeks at # 1 in The Billboard Hot 100, in 1996.
15. Did Doctor and the Medics' "Spirit In The Sky" top the charts in over 15 countries?

Answer: Yes

Doctor and the Medics' "Spirit In The Sky", cover version of Norman Greenbaum's original song released in 1969, actually managed to stay at # 1 in the charts of 32 countries.
