Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of the following Poets of the Fall members is not one of the three original members?

Answer: Jaska Mäkinen

Marko, Olli and Captain (Kaarlonen) were the three to kick things off in 2003. Jaska, Jani Snellman and Jari Salminen joined in a bit later, first in live performances and then in studio.
2. Poets of the Fall is a Finnish band. From which city does it originate?

Answer: Helsinki

All the three original members hail from Helsinki. Not surprisingly, almost every tour has ended in this capital of Finland.
3. Which of the five first studio album titles does not have a song of the same name amongst their discography?

Answer: Twilight Theater

The albums "Temple of Thought", "Revolution Roulette" and "Carnival of Rust" have all got a song of the same name in their respective track lists. "Signs of Life" is a little complicated because if you feel certain that the album didn't have a "namesake song", you're right.

A song called "Signs of Life" was released years later in a special edition release of the "Temple of Thought" album. The text of the song "Given and Denied" in the album "Twilight Theater" does contain the words twilight theater a couple of times but the boys decided not to name the song after the album.
4. Which of the following Poets of the Fall songs (on the first five studio albums) was not released as a single version in any country?

Answer: Show Me This Life

"Lift" is the second single of the band and is the first track of the first studio album. "Diamonds for Tears" is a single that can be enjoyed listening to the third album. Many might name "Cradled in Love" as THE single from the fifth studio album, but it also boasts with singles "Kamikaze Love" and "Lie Eternal". Sadly, the album was so crowded with great songs that there wasn't room for the great "Show Me This Life" to be released as a single version.
5. In which country did Poets of the Fall do their first gig outside Finland?

Answer: Norway

The band is actally more popular in the three other countries but the first gig outside Finland was indeed in Norway, in the city of Stavanger on 12 February 2005.
6. In which of these most famous songs of Poets of the Fall can you not hear the exact name of the song in the lyrics?

Answer: Dreaming Wide Awake

The text has phrases "I'll sell my soul to dream you wide awake" and "I'll dream you wide awake" numerous times, but never dreamING wide awake.
7. In which of the following video game series can you enjoy music from Poets of the Fall?

Answer: "Max Payne" and "Alan Wake"

They are both game series developed by Remedy Entertainment which, surprisingly, is a Finnish game developer. In 2003, a script-writer of Remedy asked his friend, one Marko Saaresto, to sing a poem for the game "Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne". The rest is history.
8. Who directed the most famous music video of Poets of the Fall, "Carnival of Rust"?

Answer: Tuomas Harju

Tuomas "Stobe" Harju has directed videos for many famous Finnish bands including Nightwish and Lovex. The video "Carnival of Rust" has been awarded as the best Finnish music video of all time. Tim Burton popped into my mind because I remembered "Carnival of Rust" having been compared with Burton's works. The other two are also music video directors but have not worked with POTF.
9. Of which of the James Bond theme songs have Poets of The Fall made a cover version?

Answer: You Know My Name (Chris Cornell)

They performed their cover version of the "Casino Royale" (2006) theme song on a live show on YLE (Finnish national broadcasting company).
10. What is going on in the music video of Poets of the Fall's song "Lift"?

Answer: A convict is being questioned and evaluated

The convict (Marko) is wearing orange overalls and he does release a moth and then catch it again so I thought you could get mixed up. Then again, you true fan there, you never would, would you? The video by the way is geniusly filmed and has some great ideas. Befitting for one of the greatest songs of all time, I'd say.
