The Goo Goo Dolls released the hugely successful single, "Slide", along with their album "Dizzy Up The Girl", in 1998. The song held the number one position for two weeks during October of 1998 on the American Billboard Modern Rock Charts.

"Heaven", a cover of a Bryan Adams song, made DJ Sammy an international success. It made the top 5 in America and Australia.

Answer: Natalie Imbruglia

Natalie Imbruglia, the former star of Australia's "Neighbours", had the biggest American single of 1998 with "Torn". Recently, she released her new album "White Lillies Island."
