Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. REO Speedwagon did a remake of a popular Beach Boys tune (really); can you name it?

Answer: Rock and Roll Music

Yup, it's true. This song was featured on REO's "Nine Lives" LP, which also included "Only The Strong Survive", "Back On The Road Again", and "Easy Money".
2. See if you can name the Aerosmith song this lyric is from: "So I called up my headshrinker and I told him what I'd done. He said you'd best go on a diet, yeah, I hope you have some fun."

Answer: Eat The Rich

From the 1992 release, "Get A Grip". I got to see them on this tour and this is the song they opened the show with. They also caught flack from PETA over the album cover design.
3. "Color me any color. Speak to me in tongues and share. Tell me how you'd love to hate me..." Name that tune from Collective Soul.

Answer: Gel

They may be from Atlanta, Ga., but their sound is not too southern, is it? It doesn't matter, this is a good LP. It also features "December", "The World I Know", and "Simple", from this self-titled 1995 release.
4. This power ballad is from Def Leppard: "When you make love do you look in the mirror? Who do you think of, does he look like me?"

Answer: Love Bites

Guitarist Phil Collen said his mum cried when he first played this song for her and he knew he had something special then. He wasn't kidding; this was their first number 1 hit, and the LP went on to sell about ten million copies. That LP? "Hysteria", which also included "Pour Some Sugar On Me" and the concert tour featured them in the round.
5. "I've been lost now days uncounted and it's months since I've seen home. Can you hear me? Or am I all alone?" Name that tune from Grand Funk Railroad.

Answer: Closer To Home

They named their band right. These guys rocked! Mark Farner is an accomplished guitarist as well as a gifted singer and frontman.
6. "So many people have come and gone, their faces fade as the years go by. Yet I still recall as I walk along as clear as the sun in the summer sky." Name that tune from Boston.

Answer: More Than A Feeling

From their incredible self-titled debut! This is the highest-selling debut LP in history. Lead guitarist and co-founder Tom Scholtz attended MIT and built his own guitars, and Brad Delp could break glass with his incredible range of vocals. This was my first concert, and at the time a little known singer/guitarist named Sammy Hagar opened for them. Sammy blew 'em off the stage.(1978)
7. "At the one-lane bridge I leave the giants stranded at the riverside, race back to the farm to dream with my uncle at the fireside..." Sounds like a line from a Rush song to me...

Answer: Red Barchetta

Great tune from "Moving Pictures", the breakthrough LP from Rush. This is a driving song, no doubt. If you've ever heard it you know what I'm talking about; if not, plug it in your car stereo and find your favorite open road. Inspired by "A Nice Morning Drive" by Richard S. Foster.
8. Here's a lyric from the Red Rocker: "Tight pants and lipstick, she's riding on a razor's edge. She holds her own against the boys, cuts through the crowd just like a wedge."

Answer: Heavy Metal

This song was featured in the movie "Heavy Metal", a cool (R-rated) cartoon with lots of cool music. Don Felder (of Eagles fame) also had a "Heavy Metal" song in this movie, but not the same music or lyrics. This was from Sammy's 8th solo LP, "Standing Hampton", released in 1981, also featuring "I'll Fall In Love Again", "There's Only One Way To Rock", "Can't Get Loose", and a blistering remake of Janis Joplin's "Piece Of My Heart".
9. "Up and down that road in our worn out shoes, talking about good things and singing the blues..." This is from Stevie Ray Vaughan.

Answer: Life By The Drop

The most touching and heartfelt song in Stevie's arsenal, this is a solo acoustic number telling the tale of two friends reuniting after darker times. From the LP "The Sky Is Crying", also with title track and "Empty Arms".
10. This is a song from The Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band: "Blind, now I see truth, lies, and in between. Wrong can't be undone, slipped from the tip of your tongue."

Answer: Blue On Black

Kenny's father was Stevie Ray Vaughan's promoter, and let's just say he is inspired by SRV, but Kenny and his band crank out great tunes. They have their own distinctive sound. This is off of a great LP called "Trouble Is...". Also fearuring "Slow Ride", (no, not what you might think but their own original), and there's nothing slow about it.

It just rocks start to finish, including the title track, and an instrumental featuring "Double Trouble" and Kenny Wayne.
