Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What song begins with this lyric: "She goes down slow like a shot of gin"?

Answer: Love on the Rocks

From their "Open Up And Say...Ahh!" album, this is my personal all-time favorite Poison song and album. The album was released in 1988 for which it went Platinum and sold eight million copies worldwide.
2. Bret Michaels was inspired to write the song, "Something to Believe in," after he had received tragic news of a close friend's death?

Answer: True

Bret Michaels was staying at his mother's house during the Christmas holiday when he received the tragic phone call that told him of his friend, Kimo Maano's death. Kimo had been Poison's security guard and they had grown close to him throughout the many years they had spent together out on the road. One can clearly see just how much Kimo meant to Bret when watching and listening to him sing this song; it sends chills up my spine every time I hear it. Such a sad, sad song but with such unfortunate true meaning as well.

A truly unforgettable Poison song for all Poison fans and beyond. Here's some of its lyrics for all to remember: "My best friend died a lonely man. In some Palm Springs hotel room. I got the call last Christmas Eve. And they told me the news. I tried all night not to break down and cry.

As the tears rolled down my face. I felt so cold and empty. Like a lost soul out of place. And the mirror, mirror on the wall. Sees my smile, it fades again. And give me something to believe in"
3. From what song would you hear the following lyrics? "Don't put up no fight. You just turn off the lights. Walk over here to me."

Answer: Lay Your Body Down

This song is from Poison's "Crack A Smile...And More!" album that was released in 2000. It can also be found, however, on their "Greatest Hits 1986-1996" album as a bonus track that was added to it since releasing "Crack A Smile...And More!" was put on a back burner.

This was supposedly due to a shift in the Capitol Records staff where the label then decided to prepare and release a greatest hits album instead of releasing the "Crack A Smile...And More!" album.
4. 'My poor head still spinnin' from too much booze' is a lyric from the song, "Look What The Cat Dragged In"?

Answer: Yes

From Poison's very first album for which is also entitled "Look What the Cat Dragged in", the song itself was never released as a single but proved popular as their opening live show song. Like I stated in my introduction, I just recently saw Poison for my 5th time in concert, and they're still going strong with this song as the opener. I think it's a really great song and a fun way to start a concert and get the crowd going and into the show!
5. From the following lyrics, pick the one you would hear from the song "I Won't Forget You".

Answer: All Of These

Here's a quote from Bret Michaels himself about this song that basically sums up what its meaning is to them: "On March 6, 1984, we left Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to move to Hollywood, CA. For Bobby, Rikki, and myself the lyrics to this song were the message to the girlfriends, friends and families that we left behind in order to pursue our dreams."
6. Match this lyric to one of the following songs: "But your river of emotion for me flows like a dried up stream."

Answer: So Tell Me Why

This song was released on Poison's "Swallow This Live" album as a bonus track. And though it was written and produced while C.C. DeVille was still a part of Poison, he had already parted ways with them by the time it was released. But C.C. has since returned and rejoined with Poison, and I think most Poison fans will agree with me when I say "Hooray!" for that.
7. In the song "Talk Dirty to Me," there's a reference in the lyrics as to being in a Chevy truck at the drive-in?

Answer: False

The lyrics refer to being in a Ford at the drive-in. Plus there's also no reference as to whether or not that Ford is a truck or a car as I tried to trick you with by not only using Chevy but specifically stating it as a Chevy truck. Here's a bit of the lyrics for all to remember and enjoy: "Cause baby we'll be.

At the drive-in. In the old man's Ford. Behind the bushes. Till I'm screamin' for more. Down the basement. Lock the cellar door. And baby. Talk dirty to me!"
8. On which albums would you find the song "Sexual Thing"?

Answer: "Crack A Smile...And More!" and "Poison's Greatest Hits 1986-1996"

Here's another quote from Bret Michaels himself on the making and idea for this song: "There's a funny story behind this song. While rehearsing in Florida with guitarist Blues Saraceno, I had the title SEXUAL THING stuck in my mind for quite some time. Every song that we wrote musically I would call SEXUAL THING. Bobby finally snapped and told me to pick ONE song to be titled SEXUAL THING.

It was very frustrating because none of the songs had quite the "sexual groove" I was looking for. I finally came up with this awesome guitar riff and played it for Blues late one night. I then forced Rikki and Bobby to get out of bed to help me finish the song.

They agreed knowing they would never have to hear the title SEXUAL THING ever again. This proves that some of the best songs come from sheer energy, spontaneity and the ability to drive your band mates so insane that they will eventually give you your way."
9. The song entitled "Tearin' Down The Walls" is from Poison's "Look What The Cat Dragged In" album?

Answer: False

This song comes from yet again my personal favorite album of "Open Up And Say...Ahh!" It's one of Poison's more explicit sexual-based songs. Though, no actual sexual profanity is heard in the song, I'm sure, if you've ever really listened to the lyrics, that you know exactly what I mean as far as it being sexually explicit.

But hey after all, this is one of the many reasons why we just love Poison like we do, right? Well, of course it is!
10. "When I calls my baby on the telephone; she says hurry home Bret cause I'm all alone" is the opening lyric to what song?

Answer: None Of These

Another one from "Open Up And Say...Ahh!", this song is entitled "Good Love" and has again very sexually explicit lyrics.
11. The song "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" was Poison's very first #1 single?

Answer: True

Yes, it was their first #1 single and not only did it hit the number one spot, but it stayed there for eight weeks in a row as well. A beautiful and great ballad it is and one that's of my own personal favorites too.
12. In addition to lead vocals, rhythm and acoustic guitars, Bret Michaels is known for playing what small hand-held sized instrument?

Answer: Harmonica

Bret Michaels was born Bret Michael Sychak on March 15, 1963, and I read that it was his parents who were the ones who taught him how to play the harmonica. Such a great thing cause Bret can really jam on that harmonica if you ask me. I love hearing him play the blues on it too, it's so very cool! I think a great example of his jammin' harmonica playing can best be heard on the song "Poor Boy Blues" from their "Flesh & Blood" album.
13. What song contains this lyric: "Did you ever get up on the wrong side of bed with an achin' head and just fall apart?"

Answer: Let It Play

This song is from the "Flesh & Blood" album that was released in 1990. The album reached #2 on the charts and spawned Poison their third multi-platinum album. The songs "Unskinny Bop", "Ride The Wind", and the mega-hit, "Something To Believe In" from this album were also a success in spawning Poison three more gold singles; hence, their first ones being those off of "Open Up And Say...Ahh!" of which were "Nothin' But A Good Time", "Fallen Angel", "Every Rose Has Its Thorn", and "Your Mama Don't Dance".
14. On which Poison album(s) is guitarist C.C. DeVille not the guitarist on?

Answer: "Native Tongue"

"Native Tongue" was released when C.C. DeVille had parted ways with Poison, and guitarist Richie Kotzen had joined the band as C.C.'s replacement. I saw Poison in concert during the time Richie was with them, and though he's a very talented musician, for me Poison just wasn't the same without C.C.

It was such a joy when I heard that C.C. had returned and rejoined with Poison back in 1998. One might also think C.C. is not the guitarist on the "Crack A Smile...And More!" album, for which on most of it he's not; however, there are a total of five songs included on it in which C.C. is indeed the lead guitarist on. One of them is entitled "Face The Hangman" which is stated on the album as an outtake from "Open Up And Say...Ahh!" The other four are Live MTV Unplugged versions of "Your Mama Don't Dance", "Every Rose Has Its Thorn", "Unskinny Bop", and "Talk Dirty To Me".
15. How many greatest hits albums has Poison released to date of the year 2003?

Answer: 1

Poison has only released one greatest hits album entitled "Poison's Greatest Hits 1986-1996" as of July, 2003. Well, that's the end of this here quiz Poison fans, but I do hope you enjoyed it and as Bret, Bobby, Rikki, and C.C. would say, I also hope you had yourselves "Nothin' But A Good Time!"
