Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Almost cut my hair, it happened just the other day. It's gettin' kind of long. I could've said it wasn't in my way."

Answer: Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young

"Almost Cut My Hair", from the album "Deja Vu", originally released in 1970. This album also includes the tunes, "Carry On", "Our House", and "Woodstock". Before their collaboration, David Crosby was a member of the Byrds; Graham Nash was a member of the Hollies; Stephen Stills and Neil Young were members of Buffalo Springfield.
2. "Walking in the park just the other day, baby; what d'ya, what d'ya think I saw? Crowds of people sitting on the grass with flowers in their hair, said, 'Hey boy, do you wanna score?'"

Answer: Led Zeppelin

"Misty Mountain Hop", from the album "Led Zeppelin 4", originally released in 1971. This album also includes the tunes, "Stairway to Heaven", "Black Dog", and "Rock and Roll". Robert Plant is a big fan of the "Lord of the Rings" novels, and has written several songs inspired by these novels. "Misty Mountain Hop" is one of them.
3. "Here come old flattop, he come groovin' up slowly. He got joo-joo eyeball, he one holy roller. He got hair down to his knee. Got to be a joker, he just do what he please."

Answer: The Beatles

"Come Together", from the album "Abbey Road", originally released in 1969. This album also includes the tunes, "Something", "Octopus's Garden", and "She Came In Through the Bathroom Window". Legend has it that this classic was composed after Timothy Leary asked John Lennon to write a song for Leary's campaign for the governorship of California in 1969. Leary's campaign slogan was "Come Together, Join the Party". If nothing else, it gave Lennon a good idea for a song.
4. "On a Thursday night, she looked afright. Her pricky hair in curlers, Lord, what a sight. Dance, dance Little Sister, dance."

Answer: The Rolling Stones

"Dance Little Sister", from the album "It's Only Rock 'N' Roll", originally released in 1974. This album also includes the tunes, "Time Waits for No One", "Ain't Too Proud to Beg", and "Short and Curlies". From start to finish, this is an excellent album, with a good blend of blues, R&B, hard rock, funk, reggae and a couple ballads, all done very nicely.
5. "She keeps a lock of hair in her pocket. She wears a cross around her neck. Yes, the hair is from a little boy, and the cross is from someone she has not met, not yet."

Answer: The Black Crowes

"She Talks to Angels", from the Crowes' debut album "Shake Your Moneymaker", originally released in 1990. This album also includes the tunes, "Twice As Hard", "Jealous Again", and "Hard to Handle". The Black Crowes formed in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1984, and originally consisted of brothers Chris and Rich Robinson (vocals and guitar, respectively), Jeff Cease (guitar), Johnny Colt (bass), and Steve Gorman (drums).
6. "I might look like a tramp, but don't write me off, 'cause I'll have you all know, I was once a toff. At least my hair is all mine, my teeth are my own, but everything else is on a permanent loan."

Answer: The Kinks

"Low Budget", from the album of the same name, originally released in 1979. This album also includes the tunes, "Attitude", "National Health", "Catch Me Now I'm Falling", and "(Wish I Could Fly Like) Superman". The Kinks are probably the most underrated band ever. The Doors are probably the most overrated, or possibly Nirvana.
7. "Let the stories be told; let them say what they want. Let the photos be old; let them show what they want. Let them leave you up in the air. Let them brush your rock 'n' roll hair."

Answer: The Cars

"Good Times Roll", from the Cars' self-titled debut album, originally released in 1978. This album also includes the tunes, "Moving in Stereo", "All Mixed Up", and "Just What I Needed". The five members of the Cars played as a band called Cap'n Swing before settling on the name of the Cars.
8. "If there's a rock show at the Concertgebouw, they've got long hair at the Madison Square, you've got rock and roll at the Hollywood Bowl. We'll be there, ooh yeah."

Answer: Paul McCartney and Wings

"Rock Show", from the album "Venus and Mars", originally released in 1975. This album includes the tunes, "Spirits of Ancient Egypt", "Listen to What the Man Said", and Medicine Jar". I didn't know what a "Concertgebouw" was either; I thought it was a misprint. Evidently, it's a concert hall in Amsterdam, Netherlands, which is world famous for its acoustics (much like the Hollywood Bowl and Madison Square Garden).

It has its own symphony orchestra and presents some 650 concerts per year. So, there!
9. "Give me down to there (hair), shoulder length or longer (hair). Here baby, there Mama, everywhere Daddy Daddy, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair. Grow it, show it, long as I can grow it, my hair."

Answer: The Cowsills

"Hair". This nearly one-hit wonder (the Cowsills also had a #2 hit with "The Rain, The Park, and Other Things") is the title song from the Broadway musical of the same name. The Cowsills also made it to #2 with this tune in 1969. Sometimes called "The First Family of American Music", the Cowsills were the inspiration for "The Partridge Family" television show starring Shirley Jones, David Cassidy and Danny Bonaduce. I wonder if the Partidge Family ever played at the Concertgebouw.
10. Mystery word time. Now, without going back to refresh your memory, tell me: What one word was used at least once in each of the nine previous lyrics?

Answer: Hair

Hair today, gone tomorrow. "Turn on, tune in, drop out."
