Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. From which classic tune would you find the following lyrics: "So we gotta make the most of our one night together When it's over you know We'll both be so alone"?

Answer: Meat Loaf - "Bat Out Of Hell"

The thunderous opening track from Mr Loaf's epic debut album, 'Bat Out Of Hell,' that has shifted over 40,000,000 copies worldwide. The song, and everything else on the album, was written by genius composer Jim Steinman, who is also responsible for megahits such as Bonnie Tyler's 'Total Eclipse of the Heart.' 'Bat Out Of Hell' clocks in at just under 10 minutes and is one rock's true anthems... and to think that record executive Clive Davis rejected the project and so harshly dismissed Steinman's songwriting: "You don't know how to write a song... Have you ever listened to pop music? Have you ever heard any rock-and-roll music?"
2. From which song and artist would these lyrics be found: "Like a blue bird with his heart removed, lonely as a train I've run just as far as I can run If I never see the good old days shinin' in the sun I'll be doin' fine and then some"?

Answer: Eagles - "How Long"

The Eagle's comeback single from the 2007 album "Long Road Out of Eden," their first album of new material since 1979. It was written and originally recorded by J.D. Souther back in 1972. He is best known for co-writing other songs with the Eagles such as 'New Kid In Town' and 'Best Of My Love'.
3. Where are these lyrics from: "It's one o'clock and time for lunch When the sun beats down and I lie on the bench I can always hear them talk"?

Answer: Genesis - "I Know What I like (In Your Wardrobe)"

Despite the peculiar lyrics scattered throughout this song, it became one of the band's only hits from the Peter Gabriel era. It also became a real favourite among prog rock fans and is featured on 'Selling England by the Pound,' what many people believe to be the Genesis's finest offering. The song contains an electric sitar riff and lyrics about a lawn mower; all very progressive.
4. What song are these lyrics from: "We sailed on together We drifted apart And here you are by my side"?

Answer: Journey - "Open Arms"

Journey's sentimental piano ballad and a definitive 80s love song. It was co-written and sung by the unique voice of front-man Steve Perry and the delicate piano playing by Jonathan Cain. It has since been covered by Mariah Carey and Barry Manilow among other.
5. Where can these lyrics be found: "The smile of dawn arrived early May She carried a gift from her home The night shed a tear to tell her of fear And of sorrow and pain she'll never outgrow"?

Answer: Dream Theater - "Metropolis Pt. 1"

Dream Theater are hailed by many in the metal community as some of the finest technical musicians to ever grace the genre, whilst prog rock fans see them as one of the greatest bands to carry progressive music into the 21st century. And then everybody else probably sees them as pretentious show offs; make up your own mind on that one! But this is perhaps their magnum opus off the 1992 album "Images and Words" and it remains a fan favourite.

It was so popular that it inspired an entire album as its sequel, the 1999 release 'Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory,' which equaled the song's popularity.
6. Who is this by: "I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend But I always thought that I'd see you again"?

Answer: James Taylor - "Fire and Rain"

JT's biggest single; an introspective look at his early music career and the drugs of the 70s LA scene, and whatever else you make of the lyrics. This a folk/rock classic that helped establish him as one of the singer-songwriter movement's dominant forces.
7. What are these lyrics: "Skin that flick She's such a little DJ Get there quick By street but not the freeway"?

Answer: Red Hot Chili Peppers - "By The Way"

These lyrics are Anthony Kiedis's attempt at rapping in their 2002 single 'By the Way' from the album of the same.
8. So many songs about hurricanes... which one is this: "And I'm gettin blown away To somewhere safer where the feeling stays I want to love you but I'm getting blown away"?

Answer: Neil Young - "Like A Hurricane"

This is one of those impressive moments when Neil proves himself as a great guitarist and songwriter. It appeared on his 1977 album "American Stars n Bars".
9. Who is this one by: "I listen to our favorite song playing on the radio Hear the DJ say love's a game of easy come and easy go"?

Answer: Poison - "Every Rose Has Its Thorn"

Poison's biggest hit came when they released a power ballad (how many times have we heard that before?) and it features more glam metal stars pretending they are cowboys. It was released on their 1988 album 'Open Up and say... Ahh!'
10. And we end with this anthem... what is this: "There she stood in the street Smiling from her head to her feet"?

Answer: Free - "All Right Now"

A rock anthem, a number 1 single, a floor filler, a great riff, a classic, what more could one want?
