Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Roxette's "One Wish" had no promotion, but became the first Roxette hit to reach Svensktoppen, the original Swedish-language countdown list.

Answer: False

"Opportunity Nox", released in March 2003, had its debut at #12 in Svensktoppen and was the first Roxette hit to reach that countdown list. "One Wish," on the other hand, debuted at #3 in October 2006 in Svensktoppen, over three years after "Opportunity Nox".
2. This song was originally a Christmas-themed song in 1987, and it became better known three years later as part of the soundtrack to a popular love story.

Answer: It Must Have Been Love

"It Must Have Been Love" was first released in 1987 with the lyrics "and it's a hard Christmas day". Three years later, during the re-recording of the song for the film "Pretty Woman", this lyric was changed into "and it's a hard, winter's day".
3. This "Look Sharp!" song helped popularize Roxette's success, but during its recording it seemed to be a failure. It all started with an argument stemming from the uncertainty of both members' status as musicians.

Answer: Dressed for Success

The song itself was headed for disaster because everything went wrong during Roxette's initial recording sessions. The members argued over the song, each misunderstanding the other, but everything changed when Marie went in to do a guide vocal and nailed it in one blast.
4. This Roxette signature song was conceived as a "Big Bad Ballad" song.

Answer: Listen to Your Heart

"Listen to Your Heart", according to Per Gessle, was also "an absolutely true story" besides the nickname "Big Bad Ballad". He described it as such during the "Join the Joyride/The Summer World Tour" before performing the song as part of the encore.
5. When Roxette performed in China in 1995, they had a number of songs all ready for the gig -- but they were told that one song needed some lyrics changes before it could be performed. Guess the name of this song.

Answer: Sleeping in My Car

1995: According to Per Gessle, the track, "Sleeping in My Car" had some changes in the lyrics so that they could perform it in China, but they retained the original portions in the end. Roxette became the first Western band to perform in China since Wham! in 1985.
6. Name the only "Have a Nice Day" single that flopped in European countries (Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Switzerland), and especially in the United Kingdom.

Answer: Anyone

Because it received little radio play in UK, it was not as successful as the first single, "Wish I Could Fly". The music video of this song was also banned in many countries because of the suicide scene!
7. This Roxette song was originally slated to be a single from the album "Have a Nice Day" but wound up as an outtake. It was also Roxette's choice as the first single from their next album, but their recording company disagreed with their choice.

Answer: The Centre of the Heart

EMI, Roxette's recording company, wanted the single "Milk and Toast and Honey" as the first single from the album "Room Service", but Roxette disagreed, arguing that they were more known for ballads. So "The Centre of the Heart (Is a Suburb to the Brain)", the outtake from "Have a Nice Day", ended up as the first single (although it was not released worldwide), with the most expensive video made in their entire career. EMI, on the other hand, did not fully support the album because of Roxette's decision.
8. This Roxette single was originally intended to be the centerpiece of Per Gessle's solo album, "The World According to Gessle".

Answer: June Afternoon

"June Afternoon" was recorded with Per's former band Gyllene Tider, but instead of using it on his solo album, Per used it as the first track in Roxette's first compilation album, "Don't Bore Us, Get to the Chorus".
9. This "Pearls of Passion" track, released by Roxette, was originally called "Svarta Glas" ("Black Glass").

Answer: Neverending Love

"Svarta Glas" ("Black Glass") was composed by Per Gessle. He wrote this for Pernilla Wahlgren (not Pamela as I first wrote here - updated 10th of September, thanks to jensj2 for the correction & comment) but the latter turned it down and gave it to her brother, Niclas.

In the end, because the release of "Svarta Glas" was cancelled, Gessle recorded an English version of the song entitled "Neverending Love", together with his best buddy and fellow Roxette member Marie Fredriksson.
10. "The Rox Medley", Roxette's "One Wish" B-side single, included music from six songs. It also reached the Singles Top 20 Countdown in which European country?

Answer: Norway

"The Rox Medley" was at #19 in Norway's Singles Top 20 Countdown for one week only in 2nd of August 2006.
