Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In which city did Rush debut live with Neil Peart for the first time?

Answer: Pittsburgh

Peart joined the group on July 29, 1974, and on August 11, 1974, they went on tour opening for Uriah Heep and Manfred Mann at the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh, PA.
2. Which tour was jokingly and derisively nicknamed the "Down the Tubes" tour?

Answer: Caress of Steel Tour

The "Caress of Steel Tour" was nicknamed as such because that was when the band was at its lowest. They weren't selling as many tickets, no songs were played on the radio, their manager Ray Daniels was in debt, and the record company had all but written them off. Luckily, knowing they had one more chance, they just took matters in their own hands and released "2112"...and the rest, they say, is history.
3. What city was "All The World's a Stage" recorded in?

Answer: Toronto

"All The World's a Stage" was recorded at Massey Hall in their hometown of Toronto, as evidenced when the announcer said "Alright, will you please welcome home, Rush!"
4. Which continent has Rush never done a tour on?

Answer: Australia

Rush never toured over in the land "down under", as there wasn't much of a following out there. They did tour in South America, both during the Vapor Trails Tour (where they did three dates in Brazil) and the Time Machine Tour (which took them not just to Brazil, but to Chile and Argentina as well).

Their only time in Asia was when they went to Japan during the Grace Under Pressure Tour, but the atmosphere of the crowd and how they were supposed to react and when turned them off from future tours there. Europe was always a big draw for the band as well.
5. Of the first three live albums, which one was not initially issued on CD with one less song due to time constraints?

Answer: A Show of Hands

When "A Show of Hands" was released originally, compact discs were already out and becoming the norm. Therefore, time constraints were already taken into account. As for the other two, they were originally released on vinyl, 8-track, and cassette, which can be adjusted for inclusion.

However, when CDs came out, they originally had a limit of 75 minutes per disc, so to prevent from having to release a 2CD album, which would be kind of expensive to do especially to accommodate just one extra song, they just removed one song from each. ("What You're Doing" from "ATWAS" and "A Passage to Bangkok" from "ESL".) These would later be included on their "Chronicles" greatest hits compilation, and would later be returned to their respective albums when they were rereleased as remasters in 1997, as CD capacity had jumped to 80 minutes by then.
6. To what two first names was the live album "Different Stages Live" dedicated "in loving memory of"?

Answer: Jackie and Selena

"Different Stages Live" was dedicated to the memory of Jackie and Selena Taylor, Neil's then wife and only daughter, respectively. Selena had died on August 10, 1997 on Highway 401 near Brighton, Ontario in a single car accident. Jackie then succumbed to cancer barely ten months later on June 20, 1998 due to her basically willing herself to death, as according to Neil she no longer cared about anything after losing Selena.
7. What form of transportation has Neil traveled by on concert tours since 1996?

Answer: motorcycle

Neil started out riding a bicycle between some cities that weren't too far from one another, which also helped him exercise for bicycle tours he would later take to Africa. When his wife bought him a motorcycle for his 40th birthday, that started a whole new world for him, and he would eventually start touring with Rush on his motorcycle with his pal Brutus starting with the "Test for Echo" tour in 1996. Later, he would tour with Michael Mosbach in North America due to a legal incident that ultimately banned Brutus from ever entering the United States, but would still tour with Brutus everywhere else.
8. Rush started releasing a full live performance of a show of its corresponding tour after every album, starting with which album?

Answer: Vapor Trails

"Different Stages" came after "Test for Echo", and was basically the fourth of the "every fourth studio album" live recordings Rush had been known for up to that point. It was when they released "Vapor Trails" that they started releasing a live recording in both audio and video of a full show of each album's corresponding concert tour from beginning to end uncut.

The exception was for the R30 show, which had a few redundancies to the "Vapor Trails" tour.
9. Has Rush done a "one off" show as part of a large rock festival?

Answer: Yes

They did a short eight song set for the Toronto Rocks festival of July 30, 2003 due to people asking why they weren't in it. Otherwise, unless it is part of their normal touring itinerary, they usually shy away from those kind of shows. The reason, according to Neil, is because they usually rehearse and get warmed up to do a full concert tour, and to work that much on doing only one show was usually not worth it.
10. In what city did Rush play their last stop on their last ever tour?

Answer: Los Angeles

The last live show Rush ever did as a tour with the usual lineup took place at the Forum in the Los Angeles suburb of Inglewood on August 1, 2015. While their playing live may or may not continue, their touring life has concluded as Neil Peart no longer wanted to tour with the band. One thing that put the final nail in that coffin was when he finally spoke of a motorcycle accident he had in Pennsylvania during the 2010 leg of the Time Machine Tour. Until then, he had kept quiet about it out of fear he would be forbidden by the tour's insurance affidavit to ride while on tour any longer.

This also disappointed their European fan base as they did not do any dates over there at all on this tour.
