Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. An easy one to start you off- "Come Sail Away"

Answer: Grand Illusion

This was one of Styx's biggest songs, staying on the charts for two years and peaking at #8, which at the time was the highest they had gotten up the charts.
2. "Mr. Roboto"

Answer: Kilroy Was Here

This was their last #1 song, and was featured in a Volkswagen commercial.
3. "Babe"

Answer: Cornerstone

This was Styx's first true ballad, and Tommy Shaw HATED it! Styx fired Dennis DeYoung from the band for about a week over a dispute with this song.
4. "Lady"

Answer: Styx II

This was Styx's breakout hit. They presented it to WLS, Chicago's biggest radio station at the time, and asked them to play it. WLS's DJ's already loved the song, and played it every night at 8:00 until it hit the charts. It propelled Styx into a record label signing with A&M.
5. "Show Me The Way"

Answer: Edge of the Century

This song was played in tribute at all of Styx's concerts on the "Return to Paradise" Tour in 1996 after the death of John Panozzo, the band's percussionist since it was formed. Todd Sucherman filled in on the tour and is still the band's drummer.
6. "Lorelei"

Answer: Equinox

"Equinox" was the final album for John Curulewski, one of the band's original guitarists. He left to pursue other dreams. Tommy Shaw filled in and gave the band more of a hard rock edge, which along with James Young, gave the band even more success.
7. "Snowblind"

Answer: Paradise Theatre

This was the song where a California judge said a subliminal message was embedded into the track. The alledged message was, "Oh Satan move through our voices". Styx denied the accusation.
8. "Heavy Metal Poisoning"

Answer: Kilroy Was Here

Styx purposely put a backwards message at the beginning of this track as a reply to the subliminal message on Snowblind. It was "Annuit Coeptis. Novus ordo seclorum". Translated, it means, "God has favored our undertakings. A new order of the ages". It encircles the pyramid on the one dollar bill.
9. "Don't Let It End"

Answer: Kilroy Was Here

"Kilroy Was Here" was the band's final studio album with all of the core members of the band (DeYoung, Panozzo, Panozzo, Shaw, Young). "Edge of the Century" was without Shaw, who left to join Damn Yankees, and Brave New World and any other studio albums in the future will not feature John Panozzo, who died in 1996.
10. "The Best of Times"

Answer: Paradise Theatre

"Paradise Theatre" was Styx's first conceptual album. Kilroy was the second. If you look on the album, out of 11 tracks, eight of them were at least partially written by Dennis DeYoung. Tommy Shaw just wanted to play hard rock music, and didn't like DeYoung's theatre-style music attitude.

He wrote a grand total of two songs on his own, and one with Young and DeYoung. Kilroy broke up the band, with Shaw quitting after the Kilroy tour fiasco. I hope you liked the quiz!
