Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. 'Slip out the back, Jack ...'

Answer: make a new plan Stan

This is from 'Fifty Ways to Leave Your Lover'. Jack, Stan, Lee, Gus and Roy are all featured in this song. Their girlfriends can't be up to much can they, considering they all want to leave them?
2. '...and Papa said "Oye if I get that boy I'm gonna stick him in ..."'

Answer: the house of detention

From 'Me and Julio Down By The School Yard'.
3. What time did Paul 'blow that room away'?

Answer: late in the evening

Of course it was 'Late in the Evening', from the song of the same title. 'Just around midnight' is from 'Brown Sugar' by The Rolling Stones, '9 o'clock on a Saturday' is from 'Piano Man' by Billy Joel and 'Zero hour, nine am' is from 'Rocket Man' by Elton John.
4. 'Brought tears to their immigrant eyes' is a Simon and Garfunkel lyric. True or False?

Answer: False

This line is featured in 'Rene and Georgette Magrite with Their Dog After the War', a song performed by Paul Simon alone. It is the last track on the first CD of the 'The Paul Simon Anthology'.
5. '...and high up above my eyes could clearly see...'

Answer: the statue of liberty

From 'American Tune'. Great melody but not very well known. Come on, be honest, if I asked you to name a Paul Simon song is this the one you'd come up with? Didn't think so!
6. Who did Paul Simon duet with in the song 'Gone At Last'?

Answer: Phoebe Snow

This part was originally formed with Bette Midler in mind but Paul decided Phoebe Snow would be better for it. I can't imagine Bette Midler singing it now!
7. 'He said "Dolores, I live in fear, my love for you is so overpowering I'm afraid that ..."'

Answer: I will disappear

From 'Slip Sliding Away'. One of Paul's best in my opinion.
8. 'Who'll be my role model, now that my role model is gone, gone, he ducked back down the alley with some roly poly __________________.'

Answer: little bat faced girl

Now this song IS the best of Paul's work...ever (for me anyway)! The line is from 'You Can Call Me Al'.
9. What song inspired Paul to write music when he was just twelve years old?

Answer: Earth Angel

Paul found this song as something of a revelation. When he heard it he said to his poor, bewildered father "Earth Angel!...An angel from Earth!" Thank God for this sudden realisation, otherwise the world may have been a Simon-less place!
10. Paul and Art Garfunkel performed under the name of 'Tom and Jerry' when they were first formed.

Answer: True

No, not like the cartoon, although Paul isn't much taller than a mouse at just 5 feet 1 inch!
