Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. From "Me And Julio Down By The Schoolyard". The line goes: "It was against the law, it was against the law..." What comes next?

Answer: what the mama saw

This was the second single from his solo debut album "Paul Simon" from 1972. The single reached UK #15. Even Paul admits to not knowing what is was "the mama saw". Although in an interview he said it might have been something sexual, but he didn't think it made any difference to the song. (Rolling Stone interview 1972)
2. The song: "Something so right" The line: "Some people never say those words I love you, but like a child..." Next comes?

Answer: they're longing to be told

This is a beautiful song from "Rhymin' Simon" 1973. This album also contained "Kodachrome", a #2 in the US. Simon had some trouble with using the title as it is a registered trademark. As you can see by its presentation; there's a copyright-symbol at the end of the title.
3. In "50 Ways To Leave Your Lover", somewhere in the chorus he sings: "Slip out the back..." Then what?

Answer: Jack

The song was begun as Paul tried to teach his son how to rhyme. Hence the short and simple rhyming in the chorus. From the Grammy winning album "Still Crazy After All These Years" released in 1975. This single sat on the top of the American charts for 3 weeks.
4. On "Hearts And Bones" there is a track called "Hearts And Bones". One of the lines goes like this: "The Arc of a love affair" But what follows this poetic line?

Answer: rainbows in the high desert air

This song just rolls along and hits you like a freighttrain never could. It just takes your breath away... The song is about his and Carrie Fisher's marriage. There's a line in the song that goes: "One and one-half wandering Jews". Simon is Jewish and Fisher is half-Jewish.
5. From "American Tune" and the line goes: "And high above my eyes could clearly see..." What did he see?

Answer: The Statue of Liberty

Also from "Rhymin Simon". The song was chosen by "Rolling Stone Magazine" as song of the year in 1973, and was the album's third single. It reached US #35.
6. From the song "Look At That" I give you the line, "Look at that, look at this, drop...". Well, you tell me?

Answer: a stone in the abyss

From his solo outing "You're The One" 2000. This album was his first album since "Hearts And Bones" in 1983, that was more a collection of songs than a cultural flavoured album. "Graceland" being an African record, and "Rhythm Of The Saints" being a South-American-themed album. The album does however tie together well as an entity. The songs do fit together nicely. So I think anyway...
7. A song from the movie and album "One Trick Pony", "Late In The Evening". The line: "Then I learned to play some lead guitar, I was underage..." You tell me the rest of the line...

Answer: in this funky bar

This is a great uptempo song. Really funky too... This single reached #6 in the US, and #58 in the UK.
8. The last verse on "Slip Slidin' Away" begins with these lines. "God only knows, God makes his plan, The information's unavailable..." What comes next?

Answer: to the mortal man

A fine song only available on hitcollections. It made US #5 in January 1978, but was released in 1977. In 1978 Paul Simon made a cameo appearance in the Rutles movie "All You Need Is Cash". This film is a parody of the Beatles, and very well made.
9. This is an old Simon&Garfunkel song, called "59th Street Bridge Song(Feeling Groovy)" and it begins like this: "Slow down you move too fast..." What comes next?

Answer: you got to make the moment last

This song always puts me in a good mood. And I'm not smoking anything! From the 1966 album "Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme". I know that some lyrics say "morning" instead of "moment", but I felt insecure, and as on the official Paul Simon site it is transcribed as "moment" I chose to go with this version.
10. I'll round this up with "Bridge Over Troubled Water." The first lines are: "When you're weary, feeling small, when tears are in your eyes..." What is the next line?

Answer: I will dry them all

This is from the multiplatinum selling album "Bridge Over Troubled Water", and the final album from Simon&Garfunkel. So it's befitting that it's the final question on this quiz. Hope you've enjoyed it! Please take time to rank it...
