Jim Lowe opened the door to the number one spot and spent three weeks at the top of the US pop chart in 1956. It reached number eight on the UK chart in the same year. It was his only US top ten hit and his only UK chart entry but it earned him a US Gold Disc.

Frankie Vaughan reached number two on the UK chart with the song in 1956 and Glen Mason reached number 24 on the UK chart with the song also in 1956. Shakin' Stevens took it all the way to number one on the UK chart for four weeks in 1981. None of these three versions reached the US chart.

"A White Sport Coat (And A Pink Carnation)" gave Marty Robbins a number two hit on the US pop chart in 1957. It failed to chart in the UK. Country & Western singer Marty Robbins was one of the first to have major crossover hits on the pop chart and reached number one for two weeks with "El Paso" in 1960. Not so good in the UK where it only reached number 19 the same year.

US singer Johnny Desmond reached number 62 on the US pop chart with the song in 1957 but it failed to chart in the UK. UK group The King Brothers took the song to number six on the UK chart in 1957. UK singer Terry Dene reached number 18 in the UK with the song the same year. Neither of the UK hits made the US chart.

"Brown Eyed Handsome Man" was a number three hit for Buddy Holly on the UK chart in 1963. It failed to chart in the US. The song was written by Chuck Berry who released it as the B-side of "Too Much Monkey Business" in 1956.

The song was released posthumously on the Buddy Holly album "Reminiscing" in 1963. The only other singer to have charted with the song is Paul McCartney who reached number 42 on the UK chart in 1999.

Johnny Cash rode the "Orange Blossom Special" only as far as number 80 on the US pop chart in 1965. It failed to leave the station on the UK chart. Johnny Cash crossed over lots of different music styles including Country, Rockabilly, Folk and Gospel.

He was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1977, the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1980 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992. He received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999 and Rolling Stone magazine ranked him number 31 on their 100 Greatest Artists of All Time list in 2004.

The Hollies from Manchester UK had a number two hit on the US pop chart in 1972. It only reached number 32 on the UK chart later that year. It was The Hollies' highest ever US chart position and earned them a platinum single. It was their lowest UK chart position up to that time. It just goes to show that you can't please everyone.

"Tie A Yellow Ribbon Round The Ole Oak Tree" was a number one for four weeks for Dawn on the US pop chart in 1973. It also reached number one for four weeks on the UK chart the same year. It was the top selling single in the US & UK in 1973. In a previous life lead singer Tony Orlando had a number 15 hit with "Bless You" on the US pop chart in 1961.

It reached number five on the UK chart the same year.

Elton John had a number eight hit with "Blue Eyes" on the UK chart in 1982. It reached number 12 on the US pop chart the same year.

Sir Elton Hercules John CBE, born Reginald Kenneth Dwight in 1947, has sold over 250 million records worldwide. His single "Candle In The Wind 1997" is the biggest selling single in the world, selling over 37 million copies. He was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 1994.

Argentinian born Chris de Burgh had a number one for three weeks with "Lady In Red" on the UK chart in 1986. It reached number three on the US pop chart in 1987. It was a number one hit in 15 countries.

Chris de Burgh has had other number one hits in Brazil, Ireland and Lebanon and he was the first singer to enter the Swiss album chart at number one. His daughter Rosanna was crowned Miss World in 2003.

Daughter of Nat 'King' Cole, Natalie Cole had a number five hit with "Pink Cadillac" on the US pop chart in 1988. It also parked at number five on the UK chart the same year.

Although her father Nat died in 1965 aged 45 from lung cancer, through the magic of modern technology they had a hit record together in 1991. They were able to do a duet of "Unforgettable" which reached number 14 on the US pop chart and number 19 on the UK chart. In the US it earned a Gold Record and a Grammy award for record of the year.

Canadian singer Alannah Myles had a number one hit for two weeks with "Black Velvet" on the US pop chart in 1990. It got stuck at number two on the UK chart the same year. In 2000 the song earned the ASCAP millionaire award for having over 5 million radio air plays.
