Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Where was Tangerine Dream's classic first album, 'Electronic Meditation', recorded?

Answer: Berlin

The first electronic Punk album in history, 'Electronic Meditation' was recorded as a rehearsal at an old factory in Oct. 1969 in Berlin.
2. Which Tangerine Dream album reunited the band with former member Peter Baumann?

Answer: Optical Race

A Tangerine Dream recording which brought the band and Peter Baumann together again after eleven years, but this time it was not on a musical exploration. Peter Baumann had just founded his record label 'Private Music' on which the album was then released.
3. Which Tangerine Dream album is subtitled 'Largo in four movements'?

Answer: Zeit

'Zeit' was Tangerine Dream's first double album. 'Atem' was released in 1973, and quickly became a favourite of DJ John Peel. 'Rockoon' was released in 1992, and was the first to feature just Edgar and Jerome Froese. 'Tyranny of Beauty' features a track called 'Largo'.
4. Which was the last studio album for the line-up of Froese, Franke, Baumann - recorded entirely in a small studio in Berlin 1976.

Answer: Stratosfear

The title track 'Stratosfear' was re-recorded for 1995's 'Tyranny of Beauty' album. 'Pergamon' is a live performance from East Germany (as it was then), 'Exit' saw the band move towards shorter pieces, and 'Hyperborea' marked the end of the Virgin Records years.
5. Live ________? (Recorded in Albuquerque and Berlin)

Answer: Miles

'Live Miles' marked Chris Franke's last live performance with the band.
6. 'Snoring Watches Sleeping in Silence' appears on the London Astoria 2007 EP.

Answer: False

'Sleeping Watches Snoring in Silence' is the actual wording.
7. The third movement of the Dante trilogy is called:

Answer: Paradiso

'Inferno' is the first movement, and 'Purgatorio' is the second. 'La Forza del Saturno' is a track from 'Paradiso'.
8. 'Phaedra (2005)' features the extra tracks 'Delfi', and 'Mysterious Semblance at the Strand of Nightmares'. The two bonus tracks were added to the re-recorded version.

Answer: False

'Mysterious Semblance at the Strand of Nightmares' is not a bonus track - it appeared on the original 1974 breakthrough release. The additional title ŽDelfiŽ was composed in 2005, but in a deliberate attempt to capture the spirit of the seventies.
9. 'Ambient Monkeys' features twelve new titles, but earlier Tangerine Dream music can be heard throughout the album. How did this unique recording come about?

Answer: It was the pre-concert music from the 1997 European tour.

Some tracks are easier to identify than others. 'The Seventh Propeller Of Silence' sounds very similar to 'Astral Voyager'.
10. On January 3rd 1999, NASA's Mars Polar Lander was launched from Cape Canaveral Air Force station for its Mission to Mars. MPL was expected to enter the martian atmosphere by December 3rd 1999. Unfortunately it got lost a few days before the scheduled landing on the Mars surface. Which Tangerine Dream album was written and recorded in honour of the project.

Answer: Mars Polaris

The release of 'Mars Polaris' in 1999 marked the first new music in 3 years.
