Question 1 of 10
1. This first song comes from Live's 1994 album "Throwing Copper". Of this third single released in February 1995 (not released in the US as a single), the lead singer Kowalczyk said of the music video: "While the clip is shot in a home environment, I envisioned it taking place in a hospital, where all these simultaneous deaths and births are going on, one family mourning the loss of a woman while a screaming baby emerges from a young mother in another room. What you're seeing is actually a happy ending based on a kind of transference of life."

What song is Kowalczyk describing?
Hint

Question 2 of 10
2. This is the debut song of 2pac off his debut solo album "2pacolypse Now (1991)". It only climbed Billboard's US Rap Singles chart to number three, and Billboard's US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart at number ten in 1991.

What song is this?
Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. "Waitin' On Sundown (1994)" is the third album by the Country music group Brooks & Dunn. It was number one on the U.S. Billboard Top Country Albums and Canadian RPM Country Albums. My next favorite song has the opening lyrics:

"I was sittin' in a truck stop
Watchin' tumbleweeds roll by
Tryin' to read the menu
When the waitress caught my eye
She pulled a pencil from her hair
Leaned across the bar
An' I did my best not to stare
But man, she made it hard"

What's this next song that's a favorite of mine?
Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. These lyrics, "He grew up to be a worker determined to succeed, He made a life for himself, free from worldly wants or needs" comes from an album called "New Beginning", a Folk and Blues album that was released in 1995 by a woman who once sung about fast cars.

What's the name of the song the lyrics are to and the artist who sang it?
Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. This song comes from R.E.M.'s 1987 "Document" album. The lyrics are simple, just two verses repeated over and over. It's the music that grabbed me, especially the saxophone play done by Steve Berlin of Los Lobos. He also did the sax work on "King of Birds" off the same album.

What song am I speaking about?
Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. This next song is off Deana Carter's debut album "Did I Shave My Legs For This?" from 1996. Here are some lyrics to the song:

"If you get out in the drivin' rain
Stand in the eye of a hurricane
And never think twice
If you turn your back on selfishness
And your thoughts are for someone else
'Cause they've changed your life"

What's the next line which is also the title of the song?
Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. This next song originally comes from a 1970s glam/goth group called Lords of the New Church. I originally heard this song as a music video of a 1964 film called "Bande à part". "Bande à part" is a 2006 album by a French cover band.

What's the name of the song and French group?

Question 9 of 10
9. This song comes from Toad the Wet Sprocket's 1995 album "In Light Syrup", more of a compilation album of B tracks not released on their albums prior to this one. The chorus starts this song, so here's the second verse:

"I often feel
Like the prodigal son
Take all I need
Giving back none
Our beauty shows
In such different ways
You're like the light behind the fog
So bright
But still you burn my eyes away"

What's this favorite song of mine?
Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. This is probably my favorite song of all time. I listen to it a lot, at least once a week. It's a Third Eye Blind song off their first album of the same name from 1997. Can you tell me the name of this song by the last few verses?

"Taste the salt and taste the pain
I'm not thinking of you again
Summer dies and swells rise
The sun goes down in my eyes
See this rolling wave
Darkly coming to take me
Home
And I've never been so alone
And I've never been so alive"
Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
What you're seeing is actually a happy ending based on a kind of transference of life." What song is Kowalczyk describing?

Answer: Lightning Crashes

The album "Throwing Copper" (1994), which the song (and the other answers) come from, has sold more than eight million copies in the US alone. It peaked at number one in the US, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada.
2. This is the debut song of 2pac off his debut solo album "2pacolypse Now (1991)". It only climbed Billboard's US Rap Singles chart to number three, and Billboard's US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart at number ten in 1991. What song is this?

Answer: Brenda's Got a Baby

2pac (sort of) remade this song later in his short career with the song "Mama's Just a Little Girl" which is on his posthumous album "Better Dayz (2002)". This song goes a little further in the story and talks about the teenage girl raising three sons (basically alone) and how some decisions you may think are right just may actually be wrong because you're too young to realize the consequences of your actions.
3. "Waitin' On Sundown (1994)" is the third album by the Country music group Brooks & Dunn. It was number one on the U.S. Billboard Top Country Albums and Canadian RPM Country Albums. My next favorite song has the opening lyrics: "I was sittin' in a truck stop Watchin' tumbleweeds roll by Tryin' to read the menu When the waitress caught my eye She pulled a pencil from her hair Leaned across the bar An' I did my best not to stare But man, she made it hard" What's this next song that's a favorite of mine?

Answer: A Few Good Rides Away

"She's Not the Cheatin' Kind", "Little Miss Honky Tonk", and "You're Gonna Miss Me When I'm Gone" all reached number one on both the US and Canada Country Charts in 1994 and 1995.

Answer: "Cold Feet" -- Tracy Chapman

Tracy Chapman is one of my top five favorite singers. This album, "New Beginning" (1995), in my opinion, is a perfect album, yet it only reached number four on The US Billboard 200. However, the song "Give Me One Reason" reached number one on the Adult Top 40 in 1996 and Top 40 Adult Recurrents in 1997.

Answer: Fireplace

Three singles were released from this album: "The One I Love", "Finest Worksong", and perhaps in the top three of their most famous songs "It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine)" which when the song first was released as a single in 1987 didn't fare too well on the US Billboard Hot 100, only reaching number 69.

The song was played 156 times back to back at a radio station in Calgary, Alberta, Canada to coincide with the Mayan Apocalypse that was supposed to happen in 2012. That's why it probably didn't happen. Oh Canada.
6. This next song is off Deana Carter's debut album "Did I Shave My Legs For This?" from 1996. Here are some lyrics to the song: "If you get out in the drivin' rain Stand in the eye of a hurricane And never think twice If you turn your back on selfishness And your thoughts are for someone else 'Cause they've changed your life" What's the next line which is also the title of the song?

Answer: That's How You Know It's Love

As of Deana Carter's 2013 album "Southern Way of Life", this album is her only album to make it to the top ten of the US Billboard Top 200 at number ten. It did chart number one on the Canada RPM Country Albums, and number two on the US Billboard Top Country Albums.

Her songs "Strawberry Wine", "We Danced Anyway", and "How Do I Get There" charted number one on the US Country chart while only "Strawberry Wine" and "We Danced Anyway" reached number one on Canada Country.
7. This next song originally comes from a 1970s glam/goth group called Lords of the New Church. I originally heard this song as a music video of a 1964 film called "Bande à part". "Bande à part" is a 2006 album by a French cover band. What's the name of the song and French group?

Answer: "Dance With Me" -- Nouvelle Vague

The film clip the music video takes from is the French film "Bande à part (1964)" by Jean-Luc Godard. "Dance With Me" charted at number 85 on the US Billboard in 1983. Though I like their version, I like Nouvelle Vague's better.
8. More in the vein of an epic rather than just a long running song, "Daffodil Lament" comes off the 1994 album "No Need to Argue". What's the name of the group who sang another one of my favorite songs?

Answer: The Cranberries

"Daffodil Lament" is the longest song on the album at six minutes and fourteen seconds. The album itself peaked at number one in Australia, Austria, France, and Germany. It only reached number six in the US. It has sold over 17 million copies worldwide and is seven times Platinum in the US alone.
9. This song comes from Toad the Wet Sprocket's 1995 album "In Light Syrup", more of a compilation album of B tracks not released on their albums prior to this one. The chorus starts this song, so here's the second verse: "I often feel Like the prodigal son Take all I need Giving back none Our beauty shows In such different ways You're like the light behind the fog So bright But still you burn my eyes away" What's this favorite song of mine?

Answer: Brother

This B-side album was classified Gold by the RIAA. Some other good songs on the album are "Little Heaven", "Hobbit on the Rocks", and "Janitor".
10. This is probably my favorite song of all time. I listen to it a lot, at least once a week. It's a Third Eye Blind song off their first album of the same name from 1997. Can you tell me the name of this song by the last few verses? "Taste the salt and taste the pain I'm not thinking of you again Summer dies and swells rise The sun goes down in my eyes See this rolling wave Darkly coming to take me Home And I've never been so alone And I've never been so alive"

Answer: Motorcycle Driveby

I listen to "God of Wine" almost as often, as well. Third Eye Blind's debut album (1997) these songs come from is their best selling album as of their album "Dopamine (2015)". It has been certified by RIAA as six times Platinum.
