Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Ric Ocasek wrote or co-wrote every original song the Cars recorded.

Answer: True

Ric is considered to be a perfectionist, and quite honestly, he wrote some of the best songs of all time. Greg Hawkes co-wrote with Ric on a few tracks.
2. What was the highest-charting single of The Cars (in the US)?

Answer: 'Drive'

'Drive' hit #3 on the Billboard charts back on July 23, 1984. It's hard to believe that even though these other songs were very popular, they never hit #1.
3. When The Cars decided it was time to wrap things up as a band, the last show they had was in November of 1987. Where was this last show performed?

Answer: Minneapolis, Minnesota

They decided they weren't having fun anymore, and after less than expected sales of 'Door to Door' and disappointing crowds on the corresponding tour, Ric gave his notice to the rest of the band. Within minutes, they all decided it was time to wrap it up. The band officially broke up in early 1988.
4. Ric Ocasek spent his off time with The Cars doing solo projects. He released his own albums, but also produced some of the coolest bands as well. Which of these bands did Ric not produce?

Answer: Butthole Surfers

Romeo Void had a great single, 'Never Say Never'.
5. The Cars were named by which of the members of the group?

Answer: David Robinson

Robinson supplied The Cars' name and took over their visuals, designing their original raised-chrome logos and many of their album
covers.
6. How many US top 40 hits did The Cars have in their career?

Answer: Thirteen

13 was the total, although three songs- 'Good Times Roll', 'I'm Not The One', and 'Since You're Gone'- made it to #41, according to 'Billboard' magazine.
7. Who produced the majority of The Cars' albums?

Answer: Roy Thomas Baker

Baker produced the first four albums. Lange produced the blockbuster 'Heartbeat City' in 1984. Shipley had his hands in on the single for 'Tonight She Comes' off of the Greatest Hits package.
Ric produced 'Door to Door' with keyboardist Greg Hawkes.
8. What video won MTV's Video of the Year from the 'Heartbeat City' album?

Answer: 'You Might Think'

Four excellent videos. 'Hello Again' was directed by Andy Warhol- very cool video.
9. Who directed the video for 'Drive'?

Answer: Timothy Hutton

This video showed the dark side of the 'Heartbeat City' album-directed wonderfully by Hutton.
10. Lastly, an easy one- what album gave us the song 'You Are The Girl',proving to be what would become the last top 40 single for The Cars?

Answer: 'Door To Door'

The last studio recording for The Cars, released in 1987, was 'Door to Door'. 'Panorama' was released in 1980, followed by 'Shake It Up 'in 1981, and 'Heartbeat City' in 1984.
