Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Brothers Justin and Dan Hawkins come from which Suffolk town?

Answer: Lowestoft

Justin earned himself the nickname "Y-Fronts" at school, for his habit of wearing his underpants over his trousers!
2. Before forming The Darkness, Justin, Dan, and Frankie were in a progressive rock band called what?

Answer: Empire

Prior to Empire, Dan Hawkins and Frankie Poulain played in a covers band with Dan on lead vocal duties.
3. Flamboyant lead singer Justin once won a karaoke contest at his aunt's pub performing which classic rock song?

Answer: "Bohemian Rhapsody"

It had to be Queen really! Although listeners can spot the influence of bands such as Deep Purple, AC/DC, Def Leppard, Aerosmith, and Boston (to name just a few), it is Freddie Mercury and Queen who fans think they most resemble.
4. Which instrument does Ed Graham play for the band?

Answer: Drums

As well as Ed on drums, the band also has Justin on vocals, guitar, piano and synthesizer, brother Dan on guitar, and Frankie Poulain on bass.
Frankie was sacked from the band in 2005, and was replaced by their former guitar technician Richie Edwards.
5. What was the title of the first album by The Darkness?

Answer: "Permission To Land"

Released in July 2003 to huge acclaim in the UK, the album, boosted by the success of the single "Growing On Me", soon topped the charts. Some reviewers assumed that the band were being ironic, and were not being serious, but, in interviews, Justin claims that they are "A real Saturday night band" and are trying to put the fun back into rock music.
6. "You are drunk and you are surly" is the opening line from which Darkness song?

Answer: "Get Your Hands Off My Woman"

Great title and a great live favorite.
7. Which Radiohead song do The Darkness like to perform at their concerts?

Answer: "Street Spirit"

Not an obvious choice of a band to cover perhaps, but again "Street Spirit" has proved to be a big concert favorite.
8. The Darkness are all keen football fans and even have their own team. 2003 saw them compete for the first time in which football league?

Answer: Music Business Five-A-Side

The Darkness team had a very successful first season, with Justin Hawkins proving a reliable goal scorer! They competed against other music business teams such as Sony Records and Carlin Music.
9. August 2003 saw The Darkness get their very own NASCAR, with the bands "flames" logo painted on the side. What number did this car have?

Answer: 69

The car was driven by German Roland Rehfeld in the "Days of Thunder" series.
10. Who did The Darkness support at Knebworth in August 2003?

Answer: Robbie Williams

The Darkness went down a storm, the crowds singing along to their catchy rock/pop songs. The Darkness released a Christmas single in December 2003 ("Don't Let The Bells End"), and plan to "Conquer America" and the rest of the world! In the words of Justin Hawkins: "Gimme a D! Gimme a...Arkness!" Further information and news on The Darkness can be found on the website www.thedarknessrock.com
