Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. From what previous band did the ELO arise?

Answer: The Move

The Electric Light Orchestra was a plan made by The Move's Roy Wood and soon it became the primary act of Wood and Jeff Lynne.
2. From what English city did most of the musicians in the ELO come?

Answer: Birmingham

The Move started as a local group in Birmingham so the ELO did too.
3. What was NOT a name given to the first Electric Light Orchestra album?

Answer: Out of the Blue

"Out of the Blue" was indeed an ELO album, but it was from 1977. "No Answer" was the name given in America; "Harvest" and "Electric Light Orchestra" were given in other places.
4. After Roy Wood left the band to form Wizzard, who became the main composer and lyric writer for the ELO?

Answer: Jeff Lynne

Jeff Lynne wrote all the music and lyrics for the ELO and he still holds that position. Lynne also worked with many other artists and composed for them.
5. What was considered the "first" ELO track?

Answer: 10538 Overture

"10538 Overture" was the song that started it all. 1053 was the call number of something but the 8 was added.
6. Who played drums for the Electric Light Orchestra?

Answer: Bev Bevan

Bevan played the drums, Lynne played guitar and sang, Tandy did keyboards, and I don't think much has to be said about the Ape.
7. What was the 1974 album "Eldorado" fully named?

Answer: Eldorado: A Symphony by the Electric Light Orchestra

That was the entire name but it was wisely called just "Eldorado."
8. What album was a double album?

Answer: Out of the Blue

"Out of the Blue" was the 1977 double album which was considered to be the second easiest record to find. "Discovery" is from 1979, "Time" is from 1981, and "Face the Music" is from 1975.
9. For what film did Jeff Lynne create a major portion of the soundtrack with the Electric Light Orchestra performing?

Answer: Xanadu

"Xanadu" did horribly at the box office but the soundtrack received honors.
10. What album used a lot of synthesizers and whose theme was the future in about the year 2095?

Answer: Time

The 1981 LP was met with mixed emotions.
11. Which of was a symbol for the Electric Light Orchestra?

Answer: A space ship

The space ship became the symbol of the ELO in the mid 70's and their concerts always featured it. However, their first logo was the top of a Wurlitzer jukebox, cut and pasted in quarters to form a circle, with the ELO logo inside of it. This last bit of trivia was a correction sent in by Allicat90210.
12. When Jeff Lynne left the band, he composed for other artists. What group did he then join featuring George Harrison, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, and Roy Orbison?

Answer: Traveling Wilburys

The Traveling Wilburys released their humorous album "Volume 1" in 1988. Roy Orbison soon passed away, however.
13. When Lynne left, Bev Bevan still wanted to participate in ELO, but he couldn't just make another ELO album because Lynne owned 50% of the band. Bevan then made a deal with Jeff and made what band?

Answer: Electric Light Orchestra Part 2

After about a year of talks between Lynne's and Bevan's lawyers they agreed on a deal where Jeff would receive 50% of the profits, and the band would be called Part 2.
14. In 2001, Jeff Lynne made the first absolutely new Electric Light Orchestra album in fifteen years. What is the name of that album?

Answer: Zoom

"Zoom" was the first ELO album featuring new tracks since 1986's "Balance of Power". It featured mainly Jeff Lynne but the name is the same. So is the music. It's great.
15. What was the last album released before the one in Question 14?

Answer: Balance of Power

"Balance of Power" did not receive a lot of credit or publicity. The sad songs marked the break up of the ELO. The LP did produce the hit "Calling America".
