Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of the body-building trainer who has an ad at the end of the song "I Can See For Miles" off the album "The Who Sell Out"?

Answer: Charles Atlas

Charlas Atlas is guaranteed to turn you into a beast of a man, according to the advertisement at the end of the hit single on the album. On the album cover of "The Who Sell Out", bassist John Entwistle was in an advertisement for Charles Atlas, wearing a leopard skin toga while holding a pretty blonde in his right arm and a teddy bear in his left.

The advertisement said that John used to be a nine and a half stone before Charles Atlas got to him, now he's a nine and three quarter stone.
2. On the album "The Who Sell Out", what are the men repeating over and over at the end of the song "Heinz Baked Beans"?

Answer: More music

"Heinz Baked Beans" could be called a jingle itself, only lasting one minute in length and feauring advertisements for Heinz Baked Beans making the perfect tea time treat. On the album cover of "The Who Sell Out", there is an ad for Heinz Baked Beans featuring singer Roger Daltrey in a tub full of baked beans.

While the cover was being shot, it was originally going to be John Entwistle in the tub of beans. However, learning that he would be in the tub with ice cold beans, he showed up late for the shooting, and Roger was drafted as the unlucky man.
3. Finish the jingle off of "The Who Sell Out": "it's smooth sailing with the ______ __________ sound of wonderful Radio London".

Answer: highly successful

This jingle is sung at the end of the song "Odorono" by an unknown female singer. "Odorono" tells the tale of a young woman trying to impress a male in the audience with her beautiful singing. When she does woo the man, they almost start a relationship. The singer loses her man, however, because she has terrible body odor.
4. "The Who Sell Out" features the song "Mary-Anne With the Shaky Hand", a classic song about a girl every man dreamed about. Drummer Keith Moon also created an ad about the company he went to for his famed drum kit(or should I say kits). The name of the drum company is Premier.

Answer: True

An easy question for Keith fans, he was known to smash his kits, making him one of Premier's best consumers. Following this ad for Premier Drums, there is an instrumental break from Radio London before the next song.
5. "Hold your _____ together, with Rotosound strings". What will hold together, according to Rotosound Strings jingle writers on "The Who Sell Out"?

Answer: Groove

This little jingle for Rotosound Strings appears at the end of a slew of jingles for the song "Our Love Was". It is heard after the "Pussycat", "Big L", and "Speakeasy" jingles. By the way, if you care, "Our Love Was" is one of my favorite songs from the Who and has a very nice guitar solo by Pete Townshend.
6. On the 1995 re-mastered version of "The Who Sell Out", a song on side two of the (original) album features a previously unreleased demo of the "Rotosound Strings" ad at the end of the tune. What song?

Answer: Relax

"Relax" is a song basically about forgetting about your problems and not giving a care in the world, in other words, plain relaxing. Pete Townshend plays organs on this song. He would also play organs on the following tune on "The Who Sell Out", "Silas Stingy".
7. On the 1995 re-mastered version of "The Who Sell Out", the band is practicing for their new jingle (the jingle is at the end of "Someone's Coming") about a car place. Who owns the car place?

Answer: John Mason

"John Mason, we've got the best cars here!" is the jingle the band is rehearsing. They recorded it for real at the end of the song "Jaguar" (also on the re-mastered version of the album), with them singing the jingle a bit faster.
8. Thanks to the 1995 re-mastered edition of "The Who Sell Out", we found many more great jingles that Who fans could listen to at the end of brand new songs. A new song featured on the new version is a sequel to "Rael 1" on the original album, simply called "Rael 2". What jingle is featured at the end of the song?

Answer: A jingle for Top Gear

"Top Gear" was a BBC Light radio program that the Who had made several appearances on. The author of the jingle is never known, but most likely Entwistle composed the jingle at the end of "Rael 2".
9. Complete the jingle at the end of the song "Early Morning Cold Taxi", found as a bonus track on the 1995 re-mastered version of "The Who Sell Out": "Things go better with ____."

Answer: coke

There are two jingles featuring the great soda drink Coca-Cola on the 1995 re-mastered version of "The Who Sell Out". One is obviously off of "Early Morning Cold Taxi" and the other is off another bonus track called "Glittering Girl".
10. Featured on the 1995 re-mastered edition of "The Who Sell Out" and the original edition of the album released back in 1967, the album ends with a locked groove of a cappella ad for a record company. What's the record company?

Answer: Track Records

Much inspired by the locked groove at the end of the famed "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band", the jingle was created by Entwistle and drummer Keith Moon. On the original album, the jingle for Track Records was at the end of "Rael 1", which back then was the original end of the album. Thanks to the bonus tracks on the re-issued version of "The Who Sell Out", the jingle is at the end of the song "Glow Girl", which concludes the 1995 re-mastered version of the album.

There are 12 jingles featured on the original album, and 7 brand new jingles on the 1995 re-mastered version of "The Who Sell Out".

The jingles are just one of the many things that make the Who album "The Who Sell Out" a classic on its own and a must-own masterpiece.
