It was number one for 15 weeks in 1967 and spent 63 weeks on the Billboard album chart. In the 1994 book "All Time Top 1000 Albums" it was ranked number one. In the 2005 "Rolling Stone" list, The 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time it was ranked number one. As of 2012 the album has sold more than 5,000,000 copies in the UK, more than 11,000,000 copies in the US and in excess of 32,000,000 copies world wide.

Johnny Weissmuller was the superstar of his day, winning five gold medals in the swimming pool at the 1924 and 1928 Olympic Games. He successfully changed careers and became an actor in the 1930s and 1940s, starring as 'Tarzan' and 'Jungle Jim'. He died in 1984. This question written by ozzz2002.

3. What guarantee was given to the audience in "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band?"

From Quiz Remembering the Beatles - "Sgt. Pepper"

Answer: They would raise a smile

The original vinyl album cover featured Madame Tussaud's wax figures of the Beatles as well as 86 images of famous people. A plan to include a picture of Adolf Hitler was ultimately canceled. "It was twenty years ago today, Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play. They've been going in and out of style, but they're guaranteed to raise a smile."

4. Who did not participate in the designing of the artwork on the album?

From Quiz The Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper" Album

Peter Blake designed the front cover, Robert Fraser took the picture, and The Fool designed the inside. The front cover was inspired by a picture of the band that Paul's father conducted. Geoff Emerick was an engineer.

5. What lyric is George pointing to on the back cover of the album?

From Quiz The Sgt. Pepper Quiz!

Answer: 'Wednesday morning at five o'clock'

Another clue for the 'Paul is dead' mystery--supposedly showed that he died at 5 on a Wednesday morning.

6. How long did it take to record the album?

From Quiz Sgt Peppers

Answer: 129 days

7. What are the missing words from "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!"? "Over men and horses hoops and garters. Lastly through a hogshead of ____ ____."

From Quiz Sgt. Pepper's Missing Words

Answer: Real fire

"Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!" was written primarily by John Lennon. Mr. Kite is believed to be inspired by William Kite, a British circus performer from the 19th century. The song itself was inspired from circus promotional posters from that era that Lennon had come across and purchased. The music for this song was meant to have a carnival or circus atmosphere to it.

8. Ringo Sings! Yes we all know he sang track 2. on the "Sgt. Pepper" album "With A Little Help From My Friends". That question would be too easy. The question is, who had a UK number one hit with a cover version in 1968?

From Quiz Anatomy of an Album: "Sgt. Pepper"

Answer: Joe Cocker

Joe Cocker had a number one hit for one week with "With A Little Help From My Friends" on the UK chart in 1968. It reached number 68 on the Billboard Hot 100 the same year. As track 1. "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" ends it leads straight into "With A Little Help From My Friends" with the line "So let me introduce to you the one and only Billy Shears, and Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band yeah, Billy Shears". Which is of course, Ringo's only song on the album. I have no idea who Billy Shears is or was so don't ask, unless it is yet another theory that has something to do with the rumours of Paul's death in the '60s and replacement with a Paul McCartney look alike. The only time Paul McCartney died was at the 2012 Olympics when he sang "Hey Jude". The game is up Paul. Young Idea had a number 10 hit on the UK chart with "With A Little Help From My Friends" in 1967. It did not chart in the US. Joe Brown had a number 32 hit on the UK chart with "With A Little Help From My Friends" in 1967. It did not chart in the US. Wet Wet Wet had a number one hit for four weeks on the UK chart with "With A Little Help From My Friends" in 1988. It did not chart in the US. "With A Little Help From My Friends" was the first Beatles song to become number one in two different versions. The Beatles version did make the singles chart when "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band-With A Little Help From My Friends" reached number 63 on the UK chart in 1978. It reached number 71 on the Billboard Hot 100 the same year.

9. How were the skies described in "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds"?

From Quiz Remembering the Beatles - "Sgt. Pepper"

Answer: Marmalade

Allegedly, when Julian Lennon was a child he brought home a painting he had done of a classmate named Lucy O'Donnell. He described the painting to his father, John Lennon, as 'Lucy, in the sky with diamonds. "Picture yourself on a boat in a river, with tangerine trees and marmalade skies. Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly, a girl with kaleidoscope eyes, cellophane flowers of yellow and green, towering over your head."

10. Who was the producer(s) of "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band"?

From Quiz Sgt Pepper's is #1!

Answer: George Martin

The album was released in 1967, right after the hit success of "Revolver" in 1966. The Beatles would follow up "Sgt. Pepper's" with another great album, "Magical Mystery Tour", also released in 1967.

11. How many of the Sgt. Peppers band members were mentioned by name in "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band"? (Not counting Sgt. Pepper himself).

12. Who sings the lyric "Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall" from "A Day in the Life"?

From Quiz Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

13. On the back cover, what time is George pointing to?

From Quiz Sgt Peppers

Answer: 5:00

14. What did the singer in "With A Little Help From My Friends" ask to borrow?

From Quiz Remembering the Beatles - "Sgt. Pepper"

Answer: Ears

The song, which was originally entitled "Bad Finger Boogie", was recorded at Studio 2, Abbey Road in March of 1967. "What would you think if I sang out of tune, would you stand up and walk out on me? Lend me your ears and I'll sing you a song, and I'll try not to sing out of key. Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends, mm, I get high with a little help from my friends."

15. What was the first song recorded for "Sgt. Pepper's"?

From Quiz Sgt Pepper's is #1!

Answer: When I'm Sixty-Four

"Sgt. Pepper's" is also a movie starring rock stars such as Peter Frampton, Alice Cooper, and the band Aerosmith. The movie got bad reveiws, and was claimed one of the worst films ever made. Luckily the Beatles made other movies that did fairly well ("A Hard Day's Night", "Help", "Yellow Submarine" and "Let It Be", respectively).

17. What 'appears on the shore' in 'Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds'?

From Quiz The Sgt. Pepper Quiz!

18. From where did John get the idea for 'Being for the Benefit of Mr Kite'?

From Quiz Sgt Peppers

Answer: an old poster

19. What is the missing word from these lyrics from 'Lovely Rita"? "Lovely Rita, meter ____."

From Quiz Sgt. Pepper's Missing Words

Answer: Maid

An interesting fact is the term "meter maid" was more common in the United States than the UK at the time "Lovely Rita" was written; the term "meter warden" was used in the UK. Written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, some say the lyrics tell of an incident involving McCartney receiving a ticket outside the famous Abbey Road Studio. In actuality, however, the lovely meter maid's name was Meta. The song also contains a piano solo by George Martin, who is called the "Fifth Beatle" by some.

20. Which song By The Beatles (with Paul McCartney singing lead) on the "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" album, are these lyrics from? "I'm taking the time for a number of things That weren't important yesterday And I still go"

From Quiz Anatomy of an Album: "Sgt. Pepper"

Answer: Fixing A Hole

"Fixing A Hole" was track 5. on the "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" album. It was written by Paul McCartney but credited to Lennon/McCartney. In an interview in 1967 Paul McCartney said that the following lyrics from the song were about fans who hung around outside his home day and night and whose actions he found off-putting. "See the people standing there Who disagree and never win And wonder why they don't get in my door" For the first time The Beatles used another studio for recording a song on the Parlophone record label. Early in February 1967 Abbey Road studios were not available so they used the Regent Sound Studio and Guitar Shop in Denmark Street, London, for two recording sessions. Their record producer George Martin played the Harpsichord on this recording.

21. What cruel thing did the singer in "Getting Better" do to his woman?

From Quiz Remembering the Beatles - "Sgt. Pepper"

Answer: Beat her

It is said that Paul McCartney's inspiration for the line "getting better" came from drummer Jimmy Nichol who substituted while Ringo has his tonsils removed. Paul later added "all the time" to the lyrics. "I used to be cruel to my woman I beat her, and kept her apart from the things that she loved. Man, I was mean but I'm changing my scene, and I'm doing the best that I can. I've got to admit it's getting better, a little better all the time."

22. Which Beatle sings the opening track on "Sgt. Pepper's"?

From Quiz Sgt Pepper's is #1!

Answer: Paul McCartney

The title of the opening track is "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band", the same title as the album. Ringo sang on "A Little Help From My Friends", the song that follows "Sgt. Pepper's". "Sgt. Pepper's" also reprises right before the final song on the album "A Day In The Life".

23. Which statement about the flowers in "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" is incorrect?

From Quiz The Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper" Album

Answer: They are eaten by rockinghorse people

The rockinghorse people eat marshmallow pies. A drawing Julian Lennon made of a schoolmate named Lucy, which he showed to John, inspired this song. People misinterpreted the title as a reference to, of course, LSD (Lucy, Sky, Diamonds).

24. Which Beatle wore the pink Sgt. Pepper suit on the cover?

From Quiz The Sgt. Pepper Quiz!

Answer: Ringo

He must have been in the bathroom when they chose their suit colors...

25. Who set the alarm clock off?

From Quiz Sgt Peppers

Answer: Mal

26. What are the missing words from "A Day in the Life"? "Found my coat and _______ __ ___. Made the bus in seconds flat."

From Quiz Sgt. Pepper's Missing Words

Answer: Grabbed my hat

These lines are from the closing track, "A Day in the Life", primarily authored by John Lennon with some lyrics by Paul McCartney. The initial segment with the line "He blew his mind out in a car" is said to reference the fatal car accident of Guinness heir Tara Browne, although Paul McCartney later clarified this as referring to drug use.

27. What day of the week did she leave in "She's Leaving Home"?

From Quiz Remembering the Beatles - "Sgt. Pepper"

Answer: Wednesday

Paul McCartney wrote the song after reading a "Daily Mail" news article about a missing teenage girl. "Wednesday morning at five o'clock as the day begins. Silently closing her bedroom door, leaving the note that she hoped would say more. She goes downstairs to the kitchen, clutching her handkerchief, quietly turning the back door key, stepping outside she is free."

28. The song "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" was inspired by a painting by John's son. What was John's son's name who made the painting?

From Quiz Sgt Pepper's is #1!

Answer: Julian

Some people believe this song is about drugs (since the letters LSD are prominent in the title). John claimed it isn't and is about a musical version of "Alice In Wonderland". He also said "the girl with kaleidoscope eyes" turned out to be Yoko.

29. Which company used "Getting Better" in one of its commercials?

From Quiz The Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper" Album

Answer: Phillips

Phillips, the television manufacturer, used a few lines of "Getting Better" at the end of a commercial.
