Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who has "silver silk shimmering down to her toes"?

Answer: Joy

"Joy" was written, in part, about Trey's sister who had died. The other part of "Joy" is about co-author Tom Marshall's daughters. It is part of the album "Joy", released in 2009. The album was the first album since the hiatus, and the song "Joy" also celebrates the relationship between the band and their fans.
2. Who is the "jewel of Wilson's foul domain"?

Answer: Tela

"Tela" is part of Trey's senior project "The Man Who Stepped Into Yesterday", better known as "Gamehenge". "Tela" first debuted in 1988. There has never been an album release of this project, though most fans would gladly accept one.
3. Whose Grandmother bought her a ladle that she used to stir coffee, mud, and a plaster mix?

Answer: Reba

"Reba" is from the 1990 "Lawn Boy" album.

"'Reba' is more than your average, everyday song about a capitalistic moon-shiner's questionable relationship with the local meat proprietor... "

From Grant Calof and Tim Wade at Phish.net
4. Who has a lumpy head, took a walk, and is now dead?

Answer: Lucy

Lucy is from "Carini" (who also has a lumpy head). "Carini" was not released on any studio album, but it did debut on stage in 1997. It is rumored that this song is about former soundguy Pete Carini.
5. Which woman with her own title song is an artist, but not a genius and "says she wants to be a sociologist"?

Answer: Suzy Greenberg

The popular and often played "Suzy Greenberg" has never been recorded in the studio. It debuted in 1987 and gets played, on average, every four shows.
6. While Brett is "in the bathtub making soup" who is waiting "on the windowsill"?

Answer: Wendy

Wendy is from "Bathtub Gin", part of the "Lawn Boy" album. The song is about a party with many interesting characters, including troubadours, kings, a joker, and a purple humpbacked whale.
7. In which song do we meet Milly who was "as thin as a small string bean" and caught in a love triangle between a weasel and a chimpanzee?

Answer: Fee

Milly fixes her love triangle by slamming Floyd the chimp in the face with a nectarine, which causes him to fall overboard. While he is hanging by his fingertips, Milly then takes a piece of paper and slices his nipple, which makes him fall to the waiting sharks.
8. When the coal ran out, who dug "lookin' for clues" after selling out the singer?

Answer: Leigh Fordham

Leigh Fordham is from "46 Days". "46 Days" is from the 2002 "Round Room" album, but did not debut in concert until 2003. This song might be inspired by a lighting crew member of the same name.
9. In the song "Sparkle", whose name is not mentioned?

Answer: Milly

Milly is from "Fee". The other name mentioned in "Sparkle" is Ed, who is not a woman.

"Sparkle" debuted in 1991 and is on the 1993 album "Rift". It was written for co-writer Tom Marshall's wife.
10. This last lady is somewhat dear to me as we share a name. I feel as though the band is telling me directly to sing. How can anyone not like to be told "You charged me up, excited me/Upended and re-righted me"? And like the title character, I do not want to "admit when [I] am wrong, nor go back home where [I] belong.

Answer: Monica ("Sing Monica")

"Sing Monica" debuted at the 2013 Halloween show. It is on the 2014 "Fuego" album.

It is not the nicest of songs, which is how I know it was not written about me.

"The lyrics are Trey and Tom at their cleverest, trading couplets full of puns, inversions, and double meanings complaining about Monica's fickle...behavior."
