Question 1 of 10
1. This crowd pleaser has been played 376 times making it their third most played song. The most famous lyric goes:

"I saw you
With a ticket stub in your hand"
Hint

Question 2 of 10
2. This song was begged for by "phans" during the two years after Phish's hiatus and before the band decided to call it quits. However, the band never busted it out at a show. Some of the lyrics from this song are:

"The banker said, 'I ain't got that
But I sure got some powerful pills.'"
Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. This song always includes a nice little story told by Trey right in the middle when the band plays it live. The crowd goes crazy when they sing this line:

"We're coming to your town
We'll help you party down!"
Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. On most tapes including this song, the Phish crowd can be heard screaming along at the top of their lungs to the end of this line:

"Here comes the joker
we all must laugh
cause we're all in this together
and we love to take a bath"
Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. Phish's fifth most played song ever (appearing 353 times or 29% of all shows played) this tune includes the following line:

"The flesh from Satan's dogs
Will make the rudiments of gruel
Deduct the carrots from your pay
You worthless swampy fool"
Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. A little bluegrass song that was written by the band's bass player Mike Gordon. The song is supposedly about when someone stole Mike's four-track machine during college. Part of the lyrics are as follows:

"You won't steal my tape recorder
I'll call the Lord and he'll put you in the pen
You won't steal that thing again"
Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. This song tells a story that many Phish phans easily relate to. The desire to hold on to your youthful ways and lack of responsibility even when adulthood is knocking at your door. Lyrics include:

"Confuse what you can of the ending
And revise your despise so impending
'Cause I soak on the wrath
That you didn't quite mask
I'm getting it clearly through alternate paths
Or mixed in with the signal you're sending"
Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. This ballad may not be many phans' favorite tune, but most consider it a nice enough song. It does have some very nice lyrics including:

"If time were only part of the equation
Then you could draw the bound'ries of our cage
You wouldn't pile another stone upon me
And I'd be happy just to watch you age"
Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. This song's lyrics are about a man on his knee preparing to propose to his girlfriend. As he does he considers the weight of what it means and the pressure grows in him. The song's music mimics the man's own emotions, starting off slow and peaceful, but building to a final eruption in which the music is speeding along and the story ends in the following result:

"The skin that drips down from the tree
And peels back slowly from your knee
Erupts into your lung and heart
You laugh and laughing fall apart"
Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. This song grew out of a combination of two songs that Phish had messed around with in studio sessions and soundchecks, but that had never really taken off. However, when the two ideas were combined they created the song from which the following lyrics are taken:

"Lingering slowly melting away
Tossed with the salad and baled with the hay
Pooling like water that drips from above
Trampled by lambs pecked by the dove "
Hint

quiz
Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This crowd pleaser has been played 376 times making it their third most played song. The most famous lyric goes: "I saw you With a ticket stub in your hand"

Answer: Golgi Apparatus

Written back when Trey Anastasio was still in junior high school. It made its debut on 10/15/1986 and only had a couple of instances in which it wasn't one of their most played songs.
2. This song was begged for by "phans" during the two years after Phish's hiatus and before the band decided to call it quits. However, the band never busted it out at a show. Some of the lyrics from this song are: "The banker said, 'I ain't got that But I sure got some powerful pills.'"

Answer: Fluffhead

The song is broken down into different parts. These are:

I. "Fluff's Travels"
II. "The Chase"
III. "Who Do? We Do!"
IV. "Clod"
V. "Bundle of Joy"
VI. "Arrival"

The song made its debut on 12/1/1984.
3. This song always includes a nice little story told by Trey right in the middle when the band plays it live. The crowd goes crazy when they sing this line: "We're coming to your town We'll help you party down!"

Answer: Harpua

"Harpua" is a favorite of many phans and, like Fluffhead became a rarity in the bands latter stages that only appeared three times from 1997 to 2004. Unlike "Fluffhead," it was played once after the hiatus, on 7/29/2003. It was however played a total of 54 times during the band's career. The first performance was on 8/9/1987.
4. On most tapes including this song, the Phish crowd can be heard screaming along at the top of their lungs to the end of this line: "Here comes the joker we all must laugh cause we're all in this together and we love to take a bath"

Answer: Bathtub Gin

"Bathtub Gin" took some time to come into its own, but once it did, it became one the band's monster improvisational jam songs. In the early days of Phish, the song usually clocked in at around 6-7 minutes, but by the end, the band was regularly stretching it out into the 15-20 minute area. "Bathtub Gin" was first played on 5/26/1989.
5. Phish's fifth most played song ever (appearing 353 times or 29% of all shows played) this tune includes the following line: "The flesh from Satan's dogs Will make the rudiments of gruel Deduct the carrots from your pay You worthless swampy fool"

Answer: Cavern

This song may not be on many phans' list of most requested songs, but does make for a nice way to either end a set or encore a show, as the band has proved 178 times in their history. This nice little rocker made its debut on 3/28/1990.
6. A little bluegrass song that was written by the band's bass player Mike Gordon. The song is supposedly about when someone stole Mike's four-track machine during college. Part of the lyrics are as follows: "You won't steal my tape recorder I'll call the Lord and he'll put you in the pen You won't steal that thing again"

Answer: Poor Heart

"Poor Heart" is one of the times that Phish has incorporated bluegrass into their repertoire. Many of the bluegrass tunes that Phish have played are covers, but this song is one of the rare times that a member of the band has actually written a song in this genre. The first performance was on 4/22/1991.
7. This song tells a story that many Phish phans easily relate to. The desire to hold on to your youthful ways and lack of responsibility even when adulthood is knocking at your door. Lyrics include: "Confuse what you can of the ending And revise your despise so impending 'Cause I soak on the wrath That you didn't quite mask I'm getting it clearly through alternate paths Or mixed in with the signal you're sending"

Answer: Chalkdust Torture

As I mentioned, many Phans can relate to "Chalkdust's" message, especially the most memorable line from the song, "Can this wait til I'm old/Can't I live while I'm young." The line is a favorite of many phans as they try to hang on to the last few strands of their youth by following Phish (and as well as other bands) around the country. The song made its debut on 2/1/1991.
8. This ballad may not be many phans' favorite tune, but most consider it a nice enough song. It does have some very nice lyrics including: "If time were only part of the equation Then you could draw the bound'ries of our cage You wouldn't pile another stone upon me And I'd be happy just to watch you age"

Answer: Fast Enough For You

"Fast Enough for You" (or "FEFY") is Phish lyricist Tom Marshall's inquiry into what would happen if we were not so dependent on time and reaching milestones. The lyrics say that we would not be so expectant of one another and that things would be a lot happier. It is a nice sentiment. The song appears on the album Rift and made its concert debut on 11/19/1992.
9. This song's lyrics are about a man on his knee preparing to propose to his girlfriend. As he does he considers the weight of what it means and the pressure grows in him. The song's music mimics the man's own emotions, starting off slow and peaceful, but building to a final eruption in which the music is speeding along and the story ends in the following result: "The skin that drips down from the tree And peels back slowly from your knee Erupts into your lung and heart You laugh and laughing fall apart"

Answer: Sparkle

This little ditty is always crazy played live as the band's light man (and unofficial fifth member) Chris Kuroda drives the crowd into a frenzy with lights that are likely to induce vomiting or a seizure. "Sparkle" was first played on 9/25/1991.
10. This song grew out of a combination of two songs that Phish had messed around with in studio sessions and soundchecks, but that had never really taken off. However, when the two ideas were combined they created the song from which the following lyrics are taken: "Lingering slowly melting away Tossed with the salad and baled with the hay Pooling like water that drips from above Trampled by lambs pecked by the dove "

Answer: Limb By Limb

The two songs that were combined to form "Limb by Limb" are "Taken Far Away" and "Chinese Wall." These two tunes are not official songs, but rather just ideas that were messed around with from time to time. Kevboardist Page McConnell has said that neither song was very good, but that when the ideas were combined they formed the much better "Limb by Limb." The song debuted on 6/13/1997.

By the way, all of these little facts I have included are not from the top of my head, rather I got them all from the great book, "The Phish Companion: A Guide to the Band and their Music," which is 898 pages of just about every little bit of info anyone could ever want to know about Phish. Thanks for playing my little quiz here.
