Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Moody Blues?

Answer: 'Go Now'

Entered the charts late in 1964. Ironically when 'Nights In White Satin' hit the charts for the first time in 1967 it only reached a peak of 19.
2. The Animals?

Answer: 'House Of The Rising Sun'

'Baby Let Me Take You Home' actually predates the other tracks but didn't make the top 10. The others all reached a peak in the top 3.
3. Deep Purple?

Answer: 'Black Night'

'Hush' and 'Emmaretta' from the pre Gillan line up did nothing in the U.K.
4. Elton John?

Answer: 'Your Song'

'Your Song' came out in 1970. 'Lady Samantha' was released in 1969 but did nothing.
5. Spencer Davis Group?

Answer: 'Keep On Running'

'Keep On Running' was their first number 1 and was still charting when their second and last number 1 'Somebody Help Me' entered the charts. 'Gimme Some Loving' reached number 2 and 'I'm A Man' scored a number 9 spot.
6. The Kinks?

Answer: 'You Really Got Me'

'You Still Want Me' was released prior to 'You Really Got Me' but went nowhere. 'All Day And All Of The Night'entered the charts some 2 months later and made it to number 2. 'You Really Got Me' made number 1.
7. The Yardbirds?

Answer: 'For Your Love'

The five top 10 hits they had were these four and 'Over Under Sideways Down'. The Jimmy Page line up released 'Happenings Ten Years Time Ago'. Although not a bad song it only made it to number 43.
8. Gary Glitter?

Answer: 'Rock And Roll'

Of the four tracks listed here, 'I'm Leader Of The Gang' was the latest but it was the first to become number one. The others were very close but failed to reach it.
9. Bee Gees?

Answer: 'Massachusetts'

All of the others predate 'Massachusetts' but suprisingly 'New York Mining Disaster 1941' and 'To Love Somebody' failed to make the top 10. 'Spicks And Specks' was only a hit here in Australia but it was the song that prompted them to try their luck in England.
10. David Bowie?

Answer: 'Space Oddity'

Of course 'The Laughing Gnome' did nothing when it was released two years prior to 'Space Oddity'. Another suprise...'Changes' didn't fare any better than 'The Laughing Gnome'. 'Starman' actually made it to number 10.
11. Rolling Stones?

Answer: 'Not Fade Away'

'Not Fade Away' was the first of these four songs to reach the top 10, but it was these other songs that were the next three to enter the charts and then made it to number 1.
12. Electric Light Orchestra?

Answer: '10538 Overture'

It made it to number 9 while Roy Wood was still in the band. Another suprise? They had no number 1's in the U.K.
13. Fleetwood Mac?

Answer: 'Albatross'

Another suprise? 'Albatross' was the only release to reach number 1. 'Oh Well' reached number 2 and 'Rhiannon' and 'Sara' both made it to a lowly 46 and 36 respectively. Other unexpected 'failures' were 'Don't Stop', number 32 and 'Go Your Own Way', number 38.
14. Tom Jones?

Answer: 'It's Not Unusual'

'It's Not Unusual' and 'Green Green Grass Of Home' were his only two number 1's.
15. Cilla Black?

Answer: 'Anyone Who Had A Heart'

Just like Tom Jones, Cilla only had two number 1's amongst a handful of top 10 hits....'Anyone Who Had A Heart' and 'You're My World'.
