Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Whose 29th UK chart hit peaked at number 32 in 1981 and was entitled "Up The Hill Backwards"?

Answer: David Bowie

"Up The Hill Backwards" featured on Bowie's 14th album "Scary Monsters Super Creeps" and was the fourth track from the album to be released as a single in the UK.
2. "I Know What I Like In Your Wardrobe" was the first UK chart hit back in 1974 for which internationally known act?

Answer: Genesis

"I Know What I Like In Your Wardrobe" was the first chart hit for Genesis and featured on the album "Selling England By The Pound".
3. "Arnold Layne" kicked off this group's chart hits back in 1967 but they didn't hit Number One in the UK charts until 1979. Who are they?

Answer: Pink Floyd

Pink Floyd's early career is perhaps more synonymous with psychedelia than with pinching underwear off the line. "Arnold Layne don't do it again!" What a great line!
4. Which international supergroup first charted in the UK charts in 1963 with the Chuck Berry classic "Come On"?

Answer: Rolling Stones

The Rolling Stones came into being in 1962 when former schoolmates Mick Jagger and Keith Richards met Brian Jones who was playing with Alexis Korner's band Blues Incorporated. Brian named their new group after the title of the Muddy Waters song "Rollin' Stone".
5. Which chart-topping boy band failed to make much of an impact in 1992 with "Once You've Tasted Love"?

Answer: Take That

Take That re-formed in 2005 (without Robbie Williams) and have successfully re-kindled their success with their 9th UK Number One hit "Patience" in 2006.
6. Who featured with The Frog Chorus on the 1984 Christmas hit "We All Stand Together"?

Answer: Paul McCartney

Sir Paul McCartney is known for his fantastic song-writing talent alongside John Lennon in the 1960's, his band Wings in the 1970's and the Frog Chorus in 1984!
7. Whose 1972 hit "Ben" was about a pet rat?

Answer: Michael Jackson

"Ben" was a number-one hit recording by a teenaged Michael Jackson for the Motown label in 1972. The song was the theme of a 1972 film of the same name.
8. Which international star had a Number Two hit in the UK charts in 1992 with "Batdance"?

Answer: Prince

"Batdance" was, of course, the theme song to the 1989 film Batman and featured, as I remember, a really eccentric dance from the Purple Prince!
9. Who had a Top Ten UK hit in 1973 with "The Laughing Gnome"?

Answer: David Bowie

This was a very strange single release for David and featured him cracking some really corny "gnome" jokes - they should have had An Elf Warning! (sorry!)
10. Whose first UK chart hit was "Barbie Girl" in 1997?

Answer: Aqua

Anazing that the almost cartoon-like Aqua kicked off their UK chart success with "Barbie Girl" and "Dr Jones" only to follow it up with the very decent "Turn Back Time" from the film "Sliding Doors".
