Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What year did TMBG start?

Answer: 1982

They wrote many songs together in high school, but never formed a band until after college. John Linnell was in one band before TMBG, The Mundanes.
2. When they first started, how many members did the band consist of?

Answer: two

The first members were John Linnell and John Flansburgh. They stayed a duo for a while then got a backup band later.
3. Where did John Linnell and John Flansburgh start writing songs together?

Answer: high school

They did talk about junior high a bit in their documentary, but they didn't spend much time together then. They started writing songs together when they were in high school in Lincoln, Massachusetts.
4. What instrument is John Linnell most famous for playing?

Answer: accordian

He also plays keyboard and plays it just as much as the accordian, but I think he's more famous for the latter.
5. What instrument does John Flansburgh play, usually?

Answer: guitar

John Flansburgh can play a large variety of instruments, including organ, trumpet, harmonica and kazoo, but plays guitar most often.
6. Who is the lead singer of TMBG?

Answer: both

They share the title of 'vocalist' equally, and both do a great job at it, I might add!
7. For which song did TMBG win a Grammy?

Answer: Boss of Me

'Boss of Me' is the theme for the television show 'Malcolm in the Middle' and TMBG won a Grammy for the song. Sadly and most surprisingly, it's the only Grammy they've won in the band's first 25 years.
8. What instrument did Dan Hickey play for They Might Be Giants?

Answer: drums

Dan Hickey left the band in 2004 and was replaced by Marty Beller.
9. What instrument does Danny Weinkauf play?

Answer: bass guitar

Weinkauf is one of the three people in the former 'Band of Dans' that consisted of Dan Miller, Dan Hickey, and Danny Weinkauf.
10. What instrument does Dan Miller play?

Answer: guitar

Dan Miller plays both electric and acoustic guitar. I hope you enjoyed the quiz!
