Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What Led Zep original studio album track contains the lyrics: "Made up my mind, break you this time, won't be so fine, it's my turn to cry"?

Answer: Your Time is Gonna Come

This is my all-time favorite Led Zep song (just above "Fool in the Rain"), so if you haven't listened and don't know it well, you should listen very closely to the mastery of it--and of everything else from "Led Zeppelin I". (1969). This one is attributed to Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones. Who thinks these guys didn't need Jonesy? "Led Zeppelin I" was recorded at Olympic Studios in London in 1968.
2. Which Led Zep original studio album track contains the lyrics: "Play for free and play for me and play a whole lot more, more"?

Answer: The Ocean

From the "Houses of the Holy" album (1973). "The Ocean" is attributed to all four of the band members, and the album "Houses of the Holy" was recorded at Electric Lady Studios in New York and Olympic Sound in London through 1972. On the album (at high volumes with good stereo), you can actually hear a squeak in the pedal of the bass drum...
3. "The fields were plenty when Heaven sent me, I saw the kings who ruled them all, Still by the firelight and purple moonlight, I hear the rusted river's call". These lyrics come from which "Physical Graffiti" song?

Answer: The Rover

"Physical Graffiti," Disc One (1975). The song was attributed to the Page/Plant duo, and the double LP "Physical Graffiti" was recorded over a period of more than a year, from late 1973 to late 1974, and in a number of places: Headley Grange with Ronnie Lane's mobile studio and the Rolling Stones mobile studio, Olympic Studios, Island Studios, Stargroves and Electric Ladyland. It contains quite a number of masterpieces!
4. Which Led Zep original studio album track contains the lyrics: "Though Not a word I heard could I relate"?

Answer: Kashmir

Also from "Physical Graffiti." (Disc One, 1975) "Kashmir" is one of the more well-known Led Zeppelin songs; attributed to Page, Plant, and Bonzo in the beginning, it was later redone by Puff Daddy (P. Diddy) with guitar work of Jimmy Page in 2001... controversial though it was that Page allowed this to happen, in my experience it has allowed a whole new generation that was not aware of the song (or brilliance of Led Zep) to enjoy it--the only problem is, they seem to think Puff Daddy wrote it! "Kashmir" (the original) was written by Page, Plant and Bonham.
5. "You said I was the only, with my lemon in your hand," from a 1976 album and thus later in the career... from which song do these lyrics come?

Answer: For Your Life

Great song from "Presence" (1976)--a very underrated Zep album! "Presence" was recorded at Musicland Studios in Munich, and the song "For Your Life" is attributed to Page and Plant, who were both said to have been highly under the influence at the time.
6. Which Led Zep original studio album track contains the lyrics: "Now, listen, well, you say your body's achin'...Well, I know that it's achin'"?

Answer: Wearing and Tearing

"Coda," released 1982 (drummer John Bonham, of course, died in 1980. The band was still signed for the release of one more album. This album, though not as highly acclaimed, includes an INCREDIBLE musical in honor of Bonzo (Bonham), titled "Bonzo's Montreux"--Bonzo's pre-recorded drum work on this track is the kind of thing legends are made of). All tracks for the album were mixed at The Sol Studio, Cookham, Berkshire, a compilation of stuff that Led Zep had recorded before and never released. Bonzo, of course, is aptly credited with this song... it's all his genius.

The song "Wearing and Tearing," however, was accredited to Page and Plant and recorded in 1978, at Polar Studios in Stockholm.
7. Which Led Zep original studio album track contains the lyrics: "Whoa, baby, baby, I like your honey and it sure likes me, Oh, baby, baby, I got my spoon inside your jar"

Answer: Candy Store Rock

Also from "Presence" (1976). Okay, so the lyrics weren't all genius and there's some repetition (to say the least), but the feel, mood, and brilliance of the band's members come out in full force here (as on the entire album). This song is a Page/Plant duo.
8. "Sing along, oh, you don't know what you're missin', now". Which very well-known and now significantly titled Led Zep track contains these lyrics?

Answer: The Song Remains the Same

From the album "Houses of the Holy," 1973... the first one to which I was ever introduced! "The Song Remains the Same," which runs 5:24 on its original release, is accredited to Page and Plant. "The Song Remains the Same," of course, is also the title of the Led Zeppelin concert film and the later released soundtrack to that film.

While the film was recorded in 1973 (during the band's "Houses of the Holy" tour), it was released in 1976 by Swan Song.
9. Which Led Zep original studio album track contains the lyrics: "His wife was Emmie-Mae, and many little games she played..."?

Answer: Poor Tom

Released on "Coda" in 1982 and attributed to Page and Plant. This song was actually recorded by the band in 1970, 12 years before its release; in my opinion, it was a long time in coming! GREAT folk-inspired song.
10. Which highly acoustic Led Zeppelin track contains the lyric: "and now a thousand years between..."?

Answer: Tangerine

An incredibly inspired "Led Zeppelin III" track (1970) written by Jimmy Page. "Led Zeppelin III" was recorded in 1970 at Olympic Sound, London and Ardent Studios, Memphis.
11. Which Led Zep original studio album track contains the lyrics: "Together we shall go until we die, my, my, my..."?

Answer: Thank You

From "Led Zeppelin II," released in 1969--the same year the band recorded their first album--and recorded at various studios throughout 1969. The song "Thank You" was written by Robert Plant and Jimmy Page.
12. Which Led Zep original studio album track contains the lyrics: "but all that lives is born to die"?

Answer: That's the Way

Another great track from "Led Zeppelin III" (1970), and argued to be Led Zep's only "environmental" song from any studio release--I think that's an oversimplification... "That's the Way" was written by Jimmy Page.
13. "I'm so glad I took a look inside your showroom doors" are some of the the semi-controversial lyrics from which "latter days" Led Zeppelin song?

Answer: Trampled Underfoot

A song of mixed metaphors... fun fun... from "Physical Graffiti" Double LP (1975). "Trampled Underfoot," combining strong innuendo with nothing else but a song about vehicles, was written by Page, Plant, and Jonesy.
14. Which Led Zep original studio album track contains the lyrics: "I wanna tell you, some go twistin' every day"?

Answer: Down By the Seaside

"Down By the Seaside" is the third song on disc two of "Physical Graffiti" (1975). Written by Page and Plant, the song is said by some to be a tribute to Neil Young.
15. "They're knockin' down them doors, they're tryin'a take me away" come from which "Physical Graffiti" song?

Answer: Night Flight

One of my favorites... I don't know what it is, but this song is so inspirational (1975 release). "Night Flight" was written by Page, Plant and Jones.
16. Which (almost seven-minute long) Led Zep original studio album track contains the lyrics: "They carry news that must get through..."?

Answer: No Quarter

"The Messenger," of course, is not even a Led Zep original studio album song. If they ever did a song called that in any capacity, I've never heard of it. "No Quarter" is, of course, one of the most well-known songs from the "Houses of the Holy" album (1973), and was written by Jones, Page and Plant.
17. Which Led Zep original studio album track contains the lyrics: "Come on, baby, on the roundabout, ride on the merry-go-'round"?

Answer: Livin' Lovin' Maid (She's Just a Woman)

The sixth track on "Led Zeppelin II" (1969). "Livin' Lovin' Maid (She's Just a Woman)" was written by Page and Plant. Of course many Led Zeppelin lyrics as sung by Robert Plant have been famous for being misunderstood, but this is one of the top ones for that!
18. Which Led Zep original studio album track contains the lyrics: "Oooh, meet me in the middle of the air, If my wings should fail me..."?

Answer: In My Time of Dying

From Disc One of "Physical Graffiti" (1975)--the longest studio track from a band who has many incredibly long recorded songs, and every SECOND is worth listening to. "In My Time of Dying," most famous for Robert Plant's temporary refusal to sing it after his near-fatal car crash, runs 11 minutes and 8 seconds, and is attributed to all four of the band members.
19. Which Led Zep original studio album track contains the lyrics: "All I need from you is all your love, All you gotta give to me is all your love"?

Answer: Out on the Tiles

From "Led Zeppelin III" (1970), written by Page, Plant and Bonham. The song's title is from a British slang reference to "tomcatting around."
20. Which Led Zep original studio album track contains the lyrics: "Said, baby, a-when you talk the sweet talk, It sounds so good, oh, so good"?

Answer: Southbound Suarez

From "In Through the Out Door" (1979)". "In Through the Out Door" was recorded at Polar Music Studios in Stockholm, and the song "Southbound Suarez" was written by Jones and Plant. "Moby Dick", of course, is instrumental anyway...
21. "A minute seems like a lifetime, baby, when I feel this way..." are lyrics from which infamously long Led Zeppelin song?

Answer: Tea For One

From "Presence" (released 1976). Running almost nine and a half minutes, this song was composed by Page and Plant.
22. Which Led Zep original studio album track contains the lyrics: "I don't care just where my darlin' is, People, I just don't care how far..."?

Answer: I'm Gonna Crawl

"I'm Gonna Crawl"... SOULFUL Jimmy Page and Robert Plant from Led Zeppelin's "In Through the Out Door" (1979). This one, too, was written by Plant and Jones.
23. "Oh, baby, baby, when the pines begin to cry, Baby, baby, baby, how do you feel" are lyrics from which earlier Led Zep song?

Answer: Four Sticks

From "Led Zeppelin IV" (the untitled album) (1971), the song was written by Page, Plant and Jones. This song is famous for its drumming--and no wonder! Drummer Bonzo used four sticks instead of two (what a show off), in a revolutionary beat for its time--then again, it was not one of the most acclaimed songs on the album!
24. Which Led Zep original studio album track contains the lyrics: "Don't want ya ringin' my bell..."?

Answer: Ozone Baby

Released on "Coda" (1982), and boy does Robert sound good saying it, too.... Written by Page and Plant, "Ozone Baby" was recorded in 1978.
25. "Please, Mr. Brakeman, won'tcha ring your bell, Well, ring it loud and clear" are lyrics from which mid-seventies Led Zeppelin song?

Answer: Night Flight

From "Physical Graffiti" (1975). "Night Flight" is actually a very uplifting song, very appropriate to its time, ending with the lyric: "When the train stops, altogether we will smile."
