Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. After splitting with Dion, the Belmonts started a career of their own. This song got to #28 in 1962:

Answer: Come On Little Angel

The Belmonts were collectively, Angelo D'Aleo, Fred Milano and Carlo Mastrangelo. Mastrangelo, Interestingly enough, is also the actual last name of Johnny Maestro, lead singer of The Crests and Brooklyn Bridge.
2. Gary U.S. Bonds had four hits between 1961 and 1962. Both 1961 hits had a common word in the title and both 1962 hits had a common word in the title. Give the common words in sequence.

Answer: School and twist

Here they are in chronological order: "School Is Out", "School Is In", "Dear Lady Twist" and "Twist, Twist Senora".
3. B.Bumble & The Stingers charted with the instrumental "_______Rocker".

Answer: Nut

The song was adapted from "The Nutcracker" . (Tchaikowski is probably still turning over in his grave!)
4. "If You Gotta Make A Fool Of Somebody" charted on Christmas day 1961 and stayed there for 7 weeks, peaking at #22. Name the artist or artists.

Answer: James Ray

This was his only visit to the Top Forty, but it was a great song nonetheless.
5. "You'll Lose A Good Thing" was a number 8 hit for who?

Answer: Barbara Lynn

Between her guitar and that sleepy sax, one of my all time favorites.
6. The Contours had the distinction of having this song in the Top 20 twice within a period of 26 years

Answer: Do You Love Me?

The song, which originally charted in 1962, was featured in the film "Dirty Dancing" in 1988.
7. "Where Have All The Flowers Gone" charted twice, once by Johnny Rivers in 1965. Who had the hit in 1962?

Answer: The Kingston Trio

I love the PPM version, but I don't think it was ever released as a single.
8. Brian Hyland had some great hits in the 60s. Which reached #3 in 1962?

Answer: Sealed With a Kiss

"Gypsy Woman" was my favorite. A cover of an even better version by The Impressions. Back in the 70's I had the pleasure of personally meeting the great Curtis Mayfield who was once a member of the group.
9. Who is also known as "The Duke Of Earl"?

Answer: Gene Chandler

Nothing can beat that top hat and cape!
10. Larry Finnegan was a "one hit wonder" in '62 with what #11 hit?

Answer: Dear One

Larry was one of those performers who had a memorable song on a small label that just couldn't promote him. He ended up moving to Sweden.
