1. What makes the vibes different from a xylophone and marimba?

Answer: All of these

The vibes (or vibraphone) has metal bars, not wood. It has a dampening pedal to let the sound chime and a motor to speed up or down the sound of the vibes. It's also electric as well. The vibes have 37 notes from F3-F6 (Yamaha has a vibes set with 42 notes from C3-F-6).
2. Roy Ayers became a vibist after seeing Lionel Hampton in concert.

Answer: True

Roy met Lionel after the show and he gave Roy a pair of mallets as a gift for inspiration. Roy was a kid then.
3. Vince Montana played disco music on the vibes.

Answer: True

He also led The Salsoul Orchestra which were famous during the disco days. And you thought vibes were only for jazz!
4. Which artist had a 1984 music video that featured a vibes player wearing Speedos?

Answer: Honeydrippers

It was in the Honeydrippers music video "Sea of Love".

Answer: True

Bryan didn't like that disco tune because it made him sound like a chipmunk (ALVIN!). But the vibes on that song were cool!

Answer: The Doobie Brothers

Chet mostly played the drums, but doubled on the vibes for a couple of tunes.

Answer: Henry Mancini

Joe released the album in 1995, a year after Mancini's death in 1994. Mrs. Mancini complimented Joe on his fine work covering the Mancini tunes.

Answer: True

Arthur had a solo career while Julius went to A & M records. Julius worked with Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass as well as his own combo, Julius Wechter & The Baja Marimba Band. He also wrote songs, including "Spanish Flea".
9. The Keane Brothers, popular 70's teen idols, played the vibes in their concerts?

Answer: True

The Keane Brothers (Tom & John) also had a 1977 CBS summer variety show. Their dad, Bob Keane, is a clarinetist. In their concerts (and tv series), Tom played jazz on the vibes. Sometimes, John would play with him.
10. Stefon Harris released his first album in the new millenium.

Answer: False

Stefon's first album was "Black Action Figure" back in 1999. But he's the vibist of the 2000 decade!
11. "Young And Restless" star Michael Damian played the vibes in his family band, The Weirs.

Answer: True

Before the soap opera and when he became a rock star, Michael played in the family band, The Weirs. His brother Larry bought him a vibes set and Michael started playing the vibes since he was 11 years old.

Answer: True

Along with marimba, chimes and tympani, the vibes are featured in pit percussion.
13. There's a vibes solo in the broadway show, "Blast"!

Answer: False

Vibes are used in rhythm only. But there is a heavy marimba solo though on "Blast".
14. Jack Imel occasionally played vibes for which orchestra leader?

Answer: Lawrence Welk

If you got that right, you're doing wunnerful, wunnerful, wunnerful. Jack's famous for playing the marimba though as well being as a singer and dancer on the show. He joined "The Lawrence Welk Show" in 1959 and stayed until the ultimate end in 1982.
15. Victor Feldman was Henry Mancini's vibist.

Answer: True

He also played marimba as well. Had a lot of cool vibes soloes as well.
