Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Can you complete the lyric from the title track? "No more fears, Cry no more tears, Walking into mirrors, ______"

Answer: And beyond

Johnny Warman's first ever musical performance was actually onstage with Maria Callas at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, when he was a chorus member as a child.
2. Which word completes this lyric from "Radio Active"? "Look at the ____ it's time to go, We've had enough of your video"

Answer: Watch

Recording for "Walking into Mirrors" began on December 9th 1980, the day after the shooting of John Lennon. In his sleeve notes for the 2002 re-release of the album, Johnny says "everyone was so shocked and distraught" and recording commenced in a "saddened atmosphere".
3. Which season gives the title for one of the tracks on "Walking into Mirrors"?

Answer: Martian Summer

Originally composed as a much faster song, "Martian Summer" morphed into the slow, dreamy track from the album during the rehearsal and recording process.
Apparently, if you listen closely, at the beginning of the track, you can hear one of the studio technicians, (and his dog!) opening the door and carrying a tray of drinks into the room.
4. In the title of the track "S.O.S", what do the letters stand for?

Answer: sending out signals

"SOS Sending out Signals" was written in New York during the recording of other tracks from "Walking into Mirrors" when Johnny was inspired by the "energy and excitement of the City".
5. "There's a ring, Around the Sun, And it looks as if we're going ______" What's the next line of this lyric from "Screaming Jets"?

Answer: Back to where it all begun

I spent 20 years trying to work out what the 'backing lyrics' were on this track, and eventually discovered they're the voice of Johnny calling out the chord changes. He liked the sound they made and decided to leave them in the finished track.
With Peter Gabriel on backing vocals, "Screaming Jets" was the most successful single release from the album, and reached number nine in the Australian Singles Charts.
6. In "Three Minutes" we hear the story of the last minutes of a family life, when "The Warning" for a nuclear attack sounds. What is the name of the son?

Answer: Bobby

The lyric is "Mum does her knitting while Bobby sits and dreams" - Johnny Warman tells us that he has "always been interested in science fiction" and that "growing up in the sixties under the threat of a nuclear war also influenced several of the songs from "Walking into Mirrors"."
7. "He has a friend who'd like to go home with your mate, But he's a little bit shy and says ____" What question is both the next line of lyric and the title of this track?

Answer: Will you dance with me?

"Walking into Mirrors" was originally released on the Rocket Records label, owned by Elton John, and sold around 100,000 copies worldwide.
8. What sort of light gives us the title of a song from "Walking into Mirrors"?

Answer: Fantastic

The CD of "Walking into Mirrors", re-released in 2002, has all ten of the tracks from the original 1981 album, and also has six bonus tracks including "King Robot".
9. Can you complete this lyric from "Searchlights"? "Look to the sky love, There's the _____"

Answer: Face of God

Johnny was born John Waughman, and changed the spelling so that both his names would have six letters and "look better on posters".
10. Who or what are described as "plastic, fantastic, and they never stop" in the lyrics of one of the songs from the "Walking into Mirrors" album?

Answer: dancing dolls

Johnny Warman still plays live with two bands - The Mods, and 4 Bills and a Ben.
4 Bills and a Ben also have Jeff Rich of Status Quo as part of their lineup.
