He was originally going to be called Wayland but the Baptist church in the area where he was born was called Wayland Baptist Church. The preacher from the Church thanked his mother for naming him after their church. She was a Church of Christ follower so the name was changed to Waylon.

Tommy, James and Beau were their real names.
6. What year did Waylon sign with RCA?

Answer: 1964

He signed after Bobby Bear introduced him to Chet Atkins.

Answer: It providied support for an old injury he suffered

Waylon broke his wrist in a car accident. The wrist brace helped him to continue to play his guitar. After the wrist healed he continued to wear the brace because he felt it helped his wrist.

Answer: Johnny Cash

He toured with Hank Jr. early in Hank's Career. Ritchie Albright was Waylon's Best friend and Drummer. Ralph Mooney played Steel guitar in Waylon's Band.

Buddy Holly produced Waylon's first single in 1958. The song Waylon released was Jole` Blon. All the others were working for RCA during Waylon's career with RCA.

After his record Ladies Love Outlaws was released his contract was up for renewal. Waylon told Chet Atkins that the only way he would sign is if he was given total artistic control. The rest, they say is history.

Waylon had given his seat on the flight to J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson, and decided to ride the band bus to the next gig. He and Buddy joked about it and Waylon told Buddy that he hoped his plane crashed. When it did, Waylon was so guilt ridden that he quit the business for 2 years.

Waylon never went through a rehab center according to his autobiography. He stopped cold turkey and went through de-tox at his home in Arizona.

He had planned on returning to touring when he healed from the operation. Unfortunantely, he passed away on February 13, 2002. The world lost the greatest country and western artist it ever knew.
