Amerigo Vespucci claimed to have discovered the Americas before any other explorer. This is open to dispute. However he did explore the north coast of South America in 1499 and 1500.
2. Who was the second space explorer to set foot on the moon?

Answer: Aldrin

Edwin Aldrin was the second man to step on the moon in July 1969. Neil Armstrong was the first.

Fridtjof Nansen was not only an explorer but also a politician who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1922.

Captain James Cook made three voyages to the Pacific. On the first, starting in 1768, he visited Tahiti, New Zealand and the east coast of Australia. On the second, also to the South Pacific, he sailed as far southas the edge of the Antartic ice. His final voyage, starting in 1776, was to the northwest coast of North America and to Hawaii. He was killed while in Hawaii in 1779.

Francisco Orellana visited Peru in 1535. He crossed the Andes to the Napo River. He sailed down this until he reached the Amazon and continued his voyage eventually reaching the Atlantic. He described meeting some female warriors whom he called the Amazons after the Amazonz of Greek mythology.

Juan Diaz de Solis was a Spanish navigator. The Portuguese established the first European settlement in Uruguay in 1680.

Answer: Verrazano

Giovanni da Verrazano was asked by King Francis I of France to find a new route to China. He didn't do this but did explore the Atlantic coast from what is now Nova Scotia down to the now North Carolina.
He gave his name to the Verrazano Narrows Bridge in New York.
8. This explorer is said to be the first European to set foot on the North American mainland.

Answer: Ericson

Supposedly the Norseman, Leif Ericson, was blown off course when he was sailing to Greenland. Greenland had already been discovered by Eric the Red. He named the area Vinland, because of the grapes that grew there. It is not known exactly where it is.

Sir James Ross was a British explorer. In the Antarctic he discovered Victoria Land and the sea which bears his name.
