Gloria Josephine Mae Swanson (1899-1983) a godess of the American cinema in the 1920's and Joseph Patrick Kennedy (1888-1969), a businessman, investor, politician and patriarch of a large family had an affair that lasted about three years. They were both married to other people. Gloria and Kennedy met in 1927 and became business partners and lovers, until Joe ended the affair three years later.
The romance between the two was subject of the book "Gloria and Joe" written by Axel Madsen, a Danish-American journalist and biographer.
2. Marion Davies

William Randolph Hearst (1863-1951), born into a wealthy family, was an American businessman known for creating the largest newspaper and media chain in his time. He married Millecent Wilson in 1903. In 1919, Hearst met Marion Davies (1897-1961), actress and comedian in Hollywood and they went on to live together. Millecent split with from Hearst in the 1920's but they remained legally married until his death.
The affair between Marion and Hearst also lasted until his death in 1951.
3. Lauren Bacall

Betty Joan Perske, known as Lauren Bacall (1924-2014), a model and actress, best known for her beauty and sensual voice, was considered one of the greatest actresses on the 20th century. She was married to Humphrey Bogart (1899-1957) from 1945 until his death in 1957.
When Bogart was sick, Lauren started an affair with Frank Sinatra (1915-1998). Fifteen months after Bogart's death, Sinatra proposed to Lauren Bacall. She told the public about Sinatra's request, and the fact she announced their engagement to the public before him, made Sinatra angry and he didn't forgive her for that and as a consequence they did not get married.
4. Verita Bouvaire Thompson

Humphrey Bogart (1899-1957) and Lauren Bacall (1924-2014) starred in the mid 1950s in one of Hollywood's most famous love stories, and were married from 1945 to 1957. But a few people knew that even before their marriage Bogart had an affair with another woman called Verita Bouvaire Thompson (1918-2008) since 1944. Verita was a young woman who after trying to become an actress, became a hairdresser and wig-maker.
The Bogart-Verita relationship remained a secret, because at that time affairs could affect the careers of those involved.
The affair ended in 1955 when Verita married Walter Thompson.
5. Anjelica Huston

Anjelica Huston was born in the United States in 1951 and is the daughter of the film director John Huston. She was a model, successful actress, director, producer and writer. She had a very troubled relationship with the famous actor Jack Nicholson (1937) for 17 years, from 1973 until 1990. During their relationship he had numerous affairs.
In her biography, the actress says she should never have expected Nicholson to marry her.

The preparation for their marriage was being made and the ceremony would to be held on June 14, 1991 but it didn't happen. Three days before the wedding Kiefer was warned by a friend that the marriage wouldn't happen because Julia was traveling to Ireland with the actor Jason Patric.
7. Katharine Hepburn

Spencer Tracy (1900-1967) was a Hollywood actor best known for the way he performed and for his versatility. In 1923, he married Louise Treadwell but in the 1930's they went to live in separate houses but they never divorced. In 1941, the actor began a long affair with Katharine Hepburn (1907-2003), who was considered one of the greatest actresses of Hollywood Classical Cinema.
The couple co-starred in nine movies. Their 26-year relationship lasted until his death in 1967.
8. Gisele Bundchen

An event that caught the attention of the media in the early 2000's was the romance between the Brazilian famous top-model Gisele Bundchen (1980), at age 19, and the famous American actor Leonardo DiCaprio (1974) who was 25 years old. The affair lasted five years, from 2000 to 2005. Together they were one of the "Most Beautiful Couples" according to "People Magazine".
It was a very hectic period in their lives and they broke off their relationship and they followed different and successful lives.
9. Princess Margaret

In the 1950s a heart-breaking royal romance caught the attention of the world: the affair between Princess Margaret (1930-2002) and the divorced Peter Townsend (1914-1995) who worked in security for the Royal Family. In 1953, Townsend proposed her. As Margaret was less than 25 years old, according to the requirements of the Royal Marriages Act 1772, she needed ask permission to the queen to marry.
But being Townsend divorced, the Queen being the Head of the Church of England (that teaches that marriage is for life) wouldn't approve the marriage, the queen suggested that Margaret waited until she becomes 25 years old. Townsend was sent to work in Belgium and in 1955 he returned to England. According to documents that came to public in 2004, but dated October 28, 1955, the Queen Elizabeth decided, with the endorsement of the Prime Minister Sir Anthony Eden, that with the marriage Margaret and her descendants would be out of the line of succession but would keep all her rights.
However, on October 31 of this same year Margaret made a statement that aware of her obligations as member of the Royal Familiy she would not marry Peter Townsend.
10. Anne Pingeot

François Mitterrand (1916-1996) was a French statesman, who served as president of France from 1981 to 1995. In 1944, Mitterrand married Danielle Gouze (1924-2011) and had three children. When he was 47 he began a loving relationship with the young Ms. Anne Pingeot (1943) with lasted until his death. Anne became a historian French Art and is the author of several books and catalogs. From this affair was born in 1974 a daughter who was registered as Mazarine Pingeot.
This affair was known but tacitly ignored by the press until the end of his term as President in 1995.
In 1996, when Miterrand passed away, Danielle Miterrand invited Anne and Mazarine, then 21 years old, to Miterrand's funeral, where mother and daughter sat next to his legitimate family.
