She was born in South Shields in the North of England, the daughter of Charles and Nelly Dyer. Unfortunately her parents separated when she was only three years old.
2. Elinor had one full brother. What was his name?

Answer: Henzell Watson Dyer

Sadly Henzell died in 1912 of cerebro-spinal meningitis. He was only 17 years old.

Gerry of the first book later makes a brief appearance in the Chalet School books as a friend of Grizel Cochrane.

It was formed by the publishers but Elinor was keen about the idea and contributed two newsletters each year. At its height it had nearly 4,000 members from all parts of the world.

She died at home in her sleep. She had been living in Surrey with her friends, Phyllis and Sydney Matthewman.

Her last book, "Prefects of the Chalet School", was published in 1970.
