Hill began running errands for the mobsters who patronized the cabstand. After a few years, Vario took Hill under his wing and thus Hill began working for the Vario family exclusively.

Henry Hill first met James "Jimmy the Gent" Burke in 1956. Burke was a notorious hijacker and an associate of the Lucchese family. Burke became impressed with Hill when he refused to talk to anyone after an arrest. Thus Burke a mentor to Hill and the pair would work together on several crimes.

Gaspar Ciaccio's sister was a secretary for the Federal Bureau of Investigation and she turned the group in to the authorities. During the trial, one of the Rosado cousins died.

The rest of the group was convicted of extortion on November 3, 1972. Hill and Burke were sentenced to serve ten years in federal prison.

The group allegedly gambled on nine of Boston College's basketball games during the 1978-1979 basketball season. Rick Kuhn and several of the gamblers received federal imprisonment due to their activities in the scandal.
